I was wondering if other members do this...

When you first start your Malibu, do you wait for the RPMs to drop from 1,200 to about 600 before you put it in drive (or manual mode LOL)?

Pick from the two options provided. I did not include a "Sometimes I wait for it to drop, and sometimes I don't" because then everyone would probably pick that option.

I do wait for the RPMs to drop, because if I don't, my check engine light will come on. It especially happens when I move my car 2 or 3 times in the driveway (short distances) to make way for other cars getting out of the driveway.

Happened this past weekend when I was waxing my car. I moved it about 3 times back and forth from the garage to the driveway because of intermittent rain, but I did not wait for the RPMs to drop.

The light will stay on for about a minute, and then it would go away. Scares the bejesus out of me.

SOP from years ago. I wait 'cuz on the trannies of yesteryear they would slam into gear if you had the RPMs up too high. This one is electronically controlled and you can shift in at just about any RPM.

You need a third option: I don't know 'cause I never noticed. ;)

I am assuming that it only stays at 1200 for a few seconds, in which case I do wait for it to drop. That's an old habit of waiting a few seconds to be sure there aren't any unusual noises or smells before driving off. :D

P.S. You might want to pull the codes and see if maybe there is something bad developing. I don't think the CE light would be a normal thing in that situation.

I always wait a little bit in my car to see if everything is good, but I also wait for the RPM's to fall below 1000 and for the temp gauge to get close to the first quarter mark (during cold seasons only). During the summer, I don't have to wait on the temp gauge since my car sits outside it warms up rather quickly in the morning.

Same here. I always wait 1 minute before shifting into drive (and see the RPM drop on startup).

I do the same as far as the temp gauge. I let it get to the first quarter mark, then go on to the road.

With my old Silverado, I always let it come of "high idle", and then wait about 30 seconds before I put it in gear.

Yup me too, I busted a tranny mount on my 87 trans am putting it in reverse too early, its now just a habbit to wait. Plus to let the fluids move around as well. some of my older viehicles would knock or have a lifter tick when first started. However If I have been driving it that day I don't really worry about it.
