Hey all,
I just purchased an 07 Malibu LS and didn't think anything of the custom radio that was installed.
Well, it turns out this custom radio removed my ability to view the trip meter and all other tidbits on the radio display system.
My questions are:
Is there any other way to access this information?
If I would find a '07 radio/display, how easy or difficult would it be to install?
Are there any other radio/display units that will work with the 07 Malibu and give me the information I am seeking?
Thanks in advance :)

Well, this is somewhat out of my normal line, but in my opinion, the best way to do what you want is get a factory radio of the proper option code. If you go to a dealer they can look it up by the VIN, if they're cooperative, I said IF, they'll give you the part number and you can search some salvage yards or ebay. There a lot of radios on ebay, do they all work is a good question. Hopefully the factory harness isn't butchered up and you can plug in and have it set up. The setup procedure needs to be done by a dealer or an aftermarket shop properly equipped. If you want, send me the full 17 digit VIN and I can tell you what the factory RPO codes were. On top of the setup procedure, it is possible that the radio will need programming, some do, some don't. Not really a big deal unless the harness is butchered up. There is no other way I'm aware of to access the information you're looking for. Maybe someone else here knows of an aftermarket tyoe setup, I've never heard of one. Good luck.

Depending on the make and model of the stereo HU (head unit) there may be accessory devices available that restore the DIC (driver info center) messages.
Hang on a bit for others who have done HU mods and they can direct you to the right stuff.
It might be like Rodents says, that you'll have to go back to a stock HU.

There may be an aftermarket setup, however it would be most likely GM only as the data feed is over low speed GMLAN. This would most likely limit your options. How many HU's would you make just for GM applications? Like I said, you're a little out of my normal line of work. I'll watch to see what the upgrade crowd knows about this. Always good to know. I'll learn all the answers then all the questions will change.

This is the only accessory that I could find that will bring back the functions that the factory CD player offers. It is a little on the pricey side though, but it gives a good start to possibly find something similar.
