: Those with 2009's - I have a question...
DOACanada 09-25-2008, 01:21 PM OK...
Talked to my dealer today, and there seems to be some confusion....Before I relay my whole issue I was hoping to get some answers to a question.
Question:
For those with a 2009 ONLY (Sorry :( 08's it's an 09 question).
1) Do you have the Tire Pressure Monitor System in your Malibu?
Yes or No
2) If Yes, what trim level do you own?
LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ, Hybrid
3) If No, what trim level do you own?
LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ, Hybrid
If I can get some help on the answers to the above questions it would really help me out.
Thanks in advance!
TMoneyR523 09-25-2008, 01:35 PM I do not have a 2009.. but I WILL post so my count goes up so I can be closer to a senior member.. LOL. Good luck with life!
malibudragon 09-25-2008, 01:36 PM 1) Do you have the Tire Pressure Monitor System in your Malibu?
Yes

LTZ,
CDN Girl 09-25-2008, 04:04 PM I dont know if you really want to hear from me or not since my 09 is still being built.
1. Tire pressure monitor? Yes (cost me $65)
2. Trim Level? LTZ
Mother in-law's also being built at the same time:
1. Tire pressure monitor? Yes (also cost her $65):)
2. Trim Level? 2LT
Jerkyking 09-25-2008, 06:38 PM 09 2LT is a yes.
CYKEDLC 09-25-2008, 08:52 PM Yes on our 2LT as well.
george 09-26-2008, 04:23 AM For model year 2009, all canadian Malibu lost the tpms. It is in Canada a $65 option. I heard that it will come back in 2010 as the laws may change in Canada.
BTW, it may actually be better not to have if you put winter tires with different rims. That is why I did not want them on the 2009 I am looking at.
George
Looking at the US website for 09 they still show TPM as standard on all trim levels.
I'm surprised they changed it to a option in Canada.
TMoneyR523 09-26-2008, 08:14 AM They totally ****** up the 2009 model that's why I was lucky enough to find a 2008 still! They removed the side-repeater lamps.. removed the power adjustable pedals, now the tpms.. and they somehow managed to raise the prices! The only addition I could find that was useful was the OnStar bluetooth. Can someone else please agree with me so I don't look like a lunatic? LOL

sbebs 09-26-2008, 10:04 AM I agree with you PEPSI totally!
Grapes 09-26-2008, 10:21 AM 09 LTZ, Yes I have the tire pressure monitors
Have an '09 2LT that was custom ordered (build date was Aug 4).
Came with the TPMS.
ferb!
Just got my 09 last week. Bought it from the dealers inventory. Was told it was fully loaded. Love the car, however when I got it home I could not find the power pedal controls. Phoned the dealer and was told they had been dropped from the 09's due to problems with them. Now I come across this website and discover that TPM has been dropped from Canadian Malibu's -this was another option I assumed I had since the 08 brochure the dealer gave me (no 09 brochure out yet) stated that it is included. When I bought the car the dealer stated the only difference between 08 and 09 was the upgrade to the 6 speed automatic for the 4 cylinder, which is what I was interested in. As I said, I really am enjoying the car, but I'm getting a little tired of losing options I thought I had.
Now I come across this website and discover that TPM has been dropped from Canadian Malibu's .
Sounds like the TPM is still available in Canada, but it is a option now.
Did you check your DIC or window sticker to see if you have it?
Thanks Lee - I just went out and checked the window sticker and TPM is not listed. This really isn't an option I care about, we saw the car on the lot and I was interested in the 6 speed, my wife wanted to trade her Torant and get a sedan with a sunroof, and XM which this car has. So after we drove it, it was pretty much a done deal. When I got home and waited for delivery I checked out both the Canadian and US GM websites which are still only showing the 08's models and both sites showed power pedals and tpm as feature that come with the 2LT package, so I thought great some more stuff to play with when I get the car. I guess I should have got a more definate statement from the dealer about the differences between 08 and 09, but in the end it was the transmission that I was interested in.
Yep, have the 2LT and it has the TPMS. Glad I dont have the adjustable pedals, not if GM is having troubles with them. I'm 6' 4" and my wife is 5' 3" and we don't seem to need them......................
TMoneyR523 09-26-2008, 04:19 PM I need TPMS! I was driving my father's Cadillac STS while I was at one of our vacation houses and on my way back from starbucks, I drove over a bump that ended up slashing the tyre.. I had no idea I would've just kept going until god knows when! The only thing that told me was when I had two alerts telling me the two right tyres had 0 PSI.
BillD64 09-26-2008, 09:37 PM So you have it unless you go to Canada to buy your car. It is required by law in the US. With all of the attendant problems that come with them. Wait until you want to put winter tires and wheels on the car or decide to rotate the tires yourself or have a small shop rotate them. The $350 TPMS tool will be a nice addition to your tool box.

And yes it's an 09.
DOACanada 09-29-2008, 04:36 AM Thank you everyone for you the information...
All information I have been reading has lead me to believe that on the 09's in Canada they are a standard option, now I read some of the post's in here and I begin to wonder.
Like other's have said if you go on the chevrolet.com webesite you can actually download the 09' Sell Sheet, they don't have the brochure up yet. However on the U.S. 09' sheet it does state them as standard.
My issue, as I am sure some of you have guessed is that mine does not have them on it. Not very happy about this, have been having a long discussion with my dealer, as since I ordered mine early it was understood by all that this feature would be on the car. Further to points that have been made by others, I ordered my 09' based off of the 08' information while knowing something's would be eliminated. However the TPMS was something I wanted as a nice to have.....Now I don't explained to my dealer that it is becoming harder and harder to understand where the value is in these car? For example comparing 08's to 09's there are some definite "value" features for the end consumer that have been taken away.
My dealer has committed to fixing this issue, it just seems it will take some time, which is okay with me. I will be sure to keep everyone updated.
Thanks again for all the great responses....really appreciate it.

If you have to change tires seasonally, this is a good point. Between this and the differences in laws, it made sense for GM to make it optional in Canada. The real issue isn't so much that it's optional, but how slow GM / Chevy is to update their information (printed, web sites, and personnel) so that people who want to buy a vehicle know what to expect.
DOACanada - I'm sort of in the same boat as you. When I purchased my 2LT I only had the 08 brochure to look at which listed TPM and Power Pedals, as did the Chevy website. Since then I've discovered my car doesn't have Power Pedals or TPM. Neither feature was a "must have" for me but I think that it's important the the documentation provided by the dealer and by the company through their website accurately descibe what you are getting. There are so many features on these car now it is easy to overlook one or two when you are test driving the car. Currently I am having a problem in that my car does not reconize the bluetooth command so I can't pair my phone with it yet. I hope that this is not another feature that is supposed to be available on all 09's, but for some reason isn't on mine.
I can't believe how slow GM updated their websites. This year it was 3 to 4 months after the first 09 Malibus were being produced that 09 info showed on the website.
Thank you everyone for you the information...

Here is a link to a GM Canada's '09 Malibu news release. http://media.gm.com/ca/gm/en/products/VehiclesEng/e9Malibu_PIG.htm
You will notice that TPM is listed the the Safe and secure section, however they have covered it with ". . . comprehensive roster of standard and available features . . ."
It looks like all of the options that have disappeared this year have been mentioned in this release, however you can't tell if they are standard or an option.
They have also dropped the XM Satellite Radio from the Premium Sound System. It costs an extra $250. or so.

TPS-yes :D
side blinkers-no:mad:
I'm surprised to see the tire pressures go up 4-5 psi during cold start to 10 minutes of drive time.
Dealership had them set at 25 psi. I bumped it up to 35 psi.
DOACanada 10-09-2008, 05:56 AM Wisconsin - Thanks, from what we are hearing they are standard in the U.S. but no one knows what the final verdict is in Canada.
SilverThunder 10-09-2008, 10:54 AM I also bought a Canadian 09 Bu
No - TPMS - I was also a little surprised...
ST
Grapes 10-09-2008, 01:03 PM I believe they're standard on the LTZ in Canada every other model they are an option...
Here's the 2009 Malibu, finally on the GM Canada site http://configurator.autodata.gm.ca/GMCanada/buildYourVehicle.html
You can also get the Adobe brochure here: https://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles/chevrolet/malibu/brochures
I may be mistaken, but I couldn't see the TPMS on any of the models.
CDN Girl 10-09-2008, 04:06 PM I ordered a 2009 LTZ. TPMS is not standard, they are an option that I had to pay $65 for.

Same here had to pay extra 65 for TPMS and 165 for BlueTooth if memory servers me correctly.
Question for you CDN Girl your floor mats the driver side do you have two pices of plastic glued on the front to hold the carpet? The reason I ask is I am thinking of getting some WeatherTech floor mats but when I went to look at them I could not get the front driver side to fit.
I had two pieces of plastic holding my carpet! Looks like someone in the factory may have messed up!
CDN Girl 10-09-2008, 06:28 PM No I think that is how they are supposed to be. I dont have my car yet but, I was at the dealer today and happened to notice the exact same thing you are talking about. The 2 hooks for the mats. I also have purchased the WeatherTech floor mats and wondering if we will have a problem with them. Maybe there is a way to take the hooks out?
