Something I noticed - a lot of newer cars in Toronto have a license plate that I can rougly relate to the point when this car was new. Looks like a lot of folks get a new plate for a new ride. Do you?

...and no, I transfer my plates. I only had new plate when I got a second car while still having the old one and when I had a truck (in Ontario pickups are supposed to have a truck plate with different color and numberihg scheme....still have that one in a shed somewhere :))
Ever since kept the plate, it's 9 years old now.

When I traded my car in they just took my tag off my old car and gave it to me. Its sitting in the trunk now, once we get the paperwork we take it down to the tag office and pay like $20 and they transfer it and we can put it on the new car.

In Massachusetts you're required to get a new plate with a new car.

In Tennessee the new plate is paid for in your purchase of the vehicle; state law (though twenty or so dollars could not be much to a dealership when they can easily jump the price by a hundred or so and not be noticed by the reviewer), and I received my plate three weeks after the vehicle was purchased. Until then, the wind from my back windows ripped the temporary tag clear out into the road and floor board (the road incident actually happened right as I was driving to get my new plate :cool:)

You cant put an old rusty plate on a new car... new car, new plate a must!!

In Delaware, the plate goes with the car and stays that way BUT you can transfer one, if you want. My mother has a special plate that's also a vanity, and whenever she gets a new car they just do a tag transfer.

I don't mind it either way. All I care is that DE only requires the one plate so we don't have to dig into the front fascias to bolt up an ugly front plate, like many other states do.

We transferred the plate from the Safari to the Envoy but got new plates for the Malibu.

And I'm getting a new plate for the Camaro...seeing as how there's no other car to transfer plates from. :)

mine's not nowhere near rusty in 9 years :) it looks quite nice ... and to keep it that way I have a plastic protector on it. not sure if it does anything though :)
