hi my current transmission is done.
how hard would it be to remove only the transmission/transaxle??

i have experience mainly on removing honda transaxle where there is alot of space and when looking in the malibu engine bay looks like a tight fit.

would i be able to remove the tranny without removing the full subframe??
i was told i have to take the subframe off with the steering rack.
or would it just be easyier to remove the tranny and engine from the top??

From what I have experienced it is easier to drop the trans out of the bottom, but that is based off of doing the work on a lift. You may be able to take the engine and trans out from the top, and it may be easier if you are doing the work on the ground. The only other way I have seen it done is to unbolt the engine from the trans and remove it to have more room to remove the trans.
