Hi,
I'm new here and hope to enjoy and help as needed.
My current problem is I have been cursed with the gas sensor failure. I have purchased a new sensor/pump to install but (and this might seem stupid) I cannot find the gas tank.
I have a 2005 Malibu V6. Can anyone help with this? I cannot find anything through Google.
Thanks.

Back your car up on ramps.

Crawl under the car about even with the back door back end.

Look up.

See that trapezoidal chunk of plastic that's put in such a way you'll NEVER get it off without it going on a lift? That's the gas tank.

I have a copy of the Service Information page at http://www.philent.biz/images/2005_Malibu_Fuel_Tank_Replacement_Sedan.pdf (note: Links are dead, that's a PDF generated from the manual).

I don't quite know how to comment on that without coming across as dis-respectful but..........anyone who can't FIND the gas tank has no business thinking that he will be able to remove it to get to the pump and sensor that is, I believe, mounted on TOP of the tank.

The gas tank is at the OTHER end of the filler neck.;)

You pretty much have to get the car onto a lift to do the job without a high risk of damage or injury.

Having the car on the lift should make the location of the tank pretty obvious, I would think.

RalphP:
Thank you for your comment and helpful assistance. It is much appreciated.

MalibuKen:
You failed. Not only was your comment disrespectful but also condisending and juvenile. Of course its on the other end of the filler cap but when that tube is completely hidden, that makes it difficult. Whether it was beside the trunk or behind it or where ever, instead of searching for it and wasting time by taking out things that were unnecessary, I opted to ask those who had done it already. I have just finished a 2 year car project and know a vast amount about the car I built and many others but was at a loss for this location of the tank.

Guys, before this breaks out into a full-on pissing match, please take a breath. We've been getting a few too many posts like this.

dwleo, you said your piece and I feel it was as respectful as you could be given your feelings. I hope you've had your say.

MK, I wasn't sure how the OP would take your comments but now we know. Maybe my grandmother said it best when she said, "If you can't find something nice to say about someone, don't say anything." I don't want you to clam up, but this isn't the first time.

Based on the limited amount of information you provided, I gave you my honest opinion. I'm truly sorry if you feel offended.

If you could step back and be objective, you might even agree.

Assumptions. They are never good.

Assumptions. They are never good.

True. Sometimes that's all you have though.

Good luck with your tank project.
