you get up to three transfers (with a fee) on the lifetime plan, or least you used to. a friend of mine did it back when you also got a free online account.

My 3-month free trial expired in early September. I had called them twice in the first 4 weeks following that to see if I could get the $77 renewal without the inflationary "royalty fee". No dice.

Last week I decided to give them one more try. The person I spoke to refused to even offer the $77 with a royalty fee, so I told her "This is XM's last chance to get so much as a dime out of me. If we can't work out the deal I want during this last phone call, I am never calling again and I will remove the satellite radio from my car and never bother with it again."

She then said "Oh, I need to connect you with our promotions department." On hold for a minute, the next woman I talked to had no problem at all. I told her how I'd called twice before and this was the LAST try. I told her that other people I know had gotten the $77 and no fee agreement, and that I just wanted what others were getting.

She told me she was going to give me that rate, no fee, and another 3-month trial to make up for the troubles. Sending me a bill in 3 months, I'll let you know if that comes in at $77 or if I'm done. ;)

After my 3 month free trial expired, my 1 year $77 contract expired, my XM radio is still on. I recieved 2 bills for a monthly fee of about $19 per month. XM is now the new AOL bully and trying to make me think I have some agreement with the still. I thought after my year was up, bam, my radio reception stops. I haven't paid either bill and have sent an e-mailt to XM telling them to contact me with an offer, or cut me off. We'll see if they still want me as a customer. I refuse to pay as that was not part of my agreement. Anyone else getting invoiced for service they didn't agree to?

Are you sure that's how the contract works, byeuboy?

Cellphone contract for example usually have your 3-year plan or whatever, but then they go monthly. Same with renting an apartment, after your 1-year it goes monthly.

I haven't gotten my XM back after my free trial so I"m not familiar with their contracts.

I just called them about my account. They have no specials and I would have to play a fee to reconnect. I will wait until they call or email me with a special. I doubt I have to wait too long. ;-)

Still possible as of today. Here is what I did: Called 1-800-347-0600 three times for 77 deal (sequentially). Got denied for the first 2. Then finally got it done at the third time. Paid 77 + 8 royalty + 3 tax = $88 total. Did not have to leave CC on file. Was offered to pay by invoice later but I let them charge CC one time. Just wanted to complete everything at that time

You are right. I would have got that rate if it were the first time I renewed. The second rep almost gave me that rate but after checked my record he said I already had it last year, and refused to negotiate further. The royalty fee is only $8. I think it is too small to worth haggling. That one year fee is about half of my monthly TV-Internet-phone

I renewed for a year at $77 a few weeks ago. I just called and canceled my subscription after hearing commercials on one of the stations. Apparently, they lost a court case with Clear Channel and will have to run commercials on certain channels. I will not pay to listen to insurance and computer speed up ads. My only other compliant was that they play list is limited. I only listed back and forth to work and hear the same songs. Not that impressed with XM. (imho)

Bump... since it took me forever to find this thread, lol.

I just renewed mine. The offer given to me via mail was for $142/year. I called and talked to a rep and said my friend down the street was offered a year renewal for $77 and she gave it to me no problem.

When my 3 months was up I called and said I wanted to cancel, she asked why and I said it was too costly and she offered me a discounted price of 82.01 including tax for a year and I took it. I would assume they would pitch the discounted price everytime if you refused to renew for the full price.

I'm real happy to see this is still working out for everyone.

BTW, I'm on my 2nd discounted year and just about to start my third, if all goes according to my plan! ;)

I got the discount too. Just told them I wanted it and they gave me no issues.

the downfall of it all though is if you want to add in the "best of sirius" package to the account. you then are charged a completely different fee and they make every attempt to not work a deal.

crazy how xm & sirius are the same company yet when i had sirius in my honda my experiences with their customer service were far better. xm's customer service simply blows.

They also off a "music" package. My wife only listens to music so we got her that package in her car. I think it was like $7.99 a month. I like to have the sports, so I get it all LOL.

I've posted some of this before but it seems worth repeating.

I cancelled my XM after the trial and started to use a Sirius portable that replays up to 45 minutes (on same station) and remembers 30 artists/titles to let me know when they're playing on any station. The radio in the car doesn't offer those features. I got the Sirius about a year before buying the 'Bu and paid for a lifetime subscription. So long as it's not lost or stolen then I don't have to pay for satellite radio again. A year back I bought the home cradle and antenna accessory kit (~$30) so I can have it inside as well. All I have to do is lift it from the car and set it in the home. Voila!

Can't say anything one way or the other about XM's customer service, nor Sirius' for that matter. I jes be lissenin'!

BTW, it's $75 to transfer the subscription if I have to replace the tuner.

out of curiousity, what did you pay for the lifetime subscription? If the price has changed, I wonder what you can get it for now?

IIRC, it was $400 for the lifetime subscription. I compared that to about $150 per year and did the math.

I just got a flyer in the mail yesterday. I just glanced at it quickly, but it said something to the effect of $6.99 a month. Anybody else get this? If so, that means even if you pay by the month it is the same price as the "secret" yearly discount.

I just received my third phone call from the folks at XM Radio. They were offering some expensive renewal package. I know that others, from another Forum, are getting XM for $77 a year. I told them to forget it unless I could get it for the same and I did.

Also, never give them a credit card number, ask them to bill you. They will automatically renew you at a higher rate if they have your credit card information. I know of some who are on their third year at this rate.

I know that many of us will be up for renewal as our trial period is running out, so heed this information and save a few bucks. :)

My last car had XM - I let the 3 month trial expire. They wanted $14.95 per month. About a month after I let it expire, I received a special offer in the mail for $6.95 per month. I wasn't that impressed with XM at that point, so I didn't take advantage of the offer. It seems to be improved now that it's a combination of Sirius and XM. If I can get it for that price now, I would probably take advantage of it.

I was offered the Best of Sirius during my trial offer and I took it (no extra charge). If I keep that package, I won't qualify for the $77 discount? They just give you a limited number of Sirius Stations (I believe 14), so if that cost extra money, I would just drop it.

I got 5 months for like $20.00. I didn't give my credit/debit card information and told them to send me a bill. They charge $2.00 to bill according to the rep I talked with, and with tax and all, it added up to right at $25.00. If I don't cancel at the end of this period, the service will continue and I'll be billed the normal monthly charge. I'll just cancel then or see if I can't get them to extend the deal for another 5 months.
I had gotten a letter from XM right after I bought the Malibu wanting me to resume service that I had in my previous car, an 05 LaCrosse. I told them I wanted this deal for the Malibu when the trial was up and they did it.

Have gotten several XM promotions in the mail. Our free trial was set to expire next week. The best deal they offered was $6.99 a month for three months, while the one year plan was 142.45. Tax and everything, three months is $24.18. I did the math.

Zwinback + royalty fee for one year, according to the board= $94.11
Three month plan, $24.18 X 4 = $96.72
Difference= $2.61

Is a savings of $2.61 worth picking up the phone and calling XM, and maybe getting the deal easy, but maybe having to haggle and fight and scream and holler and otherwise having some unpleasantness? Of course, XM could jack the price upon renewal, and it could end up costing me more money long term.

I thought about it long and hard, and decided to just do the three month deal. Money is tight anyway this month and $24.18 makes less of a dent than $94.11 all at once. If XM tries to jack me up in three months, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Well, I gave XM too much credit. After two three-month billing cycles paying $24.18, the bill for renewal starting in April came last month. $46.79.

3 months at $12.95 a month= $38.85
Royalty fee- $5.94
Processing fee (for paper billing)- $20.00

Not cool. I called XM Radio (the number on the bill) and got connected with a nice young lady from India who really can't deal-cut with me and I got nowhere. All she can tell me is what the bill is. So who do I have to call to actually wheel-n-deal with this $77 for a year thing, or to get my bill back like it was?

Unfortunately it is not that easy, you would be better off finding an OEM deck and having it programmed to your car. If thats sounds like something your willing to try than post up a WTB thread in our Trading Post section.

I just renewed my XM account for another year. I called the 1-800-347-0600 #, chose option 1. That person couldn't offer me the 1/2 off $77, so he transfered me to another# (which was 1-800-XMRADIO), that person said that he cannot add a promotion on top of a previous promotion. So he transfered me again and gave me a case# (which I didn't bother to write down). I then spoke to a nice lady Marla who for the 3rd time asked for my account#, radio ID, address and email. She then renewed my account for another year at $77. A bit of a phone hassel but all-in-all worth the effort!

I'm told that the $77 a year annual rate is still available if you try hard enough. I too have to decide on renewal in the next month... please post here again if you can confirm getting a good rate... I will do the same!

I have 3 vehicles with XM. Last time I called I had the $77 deal. I refused that and they offered 4 months for $20. I even refused that and then they offered 3 months for F-R-E-E ! I have done this with all 3 of my vehicles.
