: XM Radio Discount
Pizza Man 04-11-2008, 12:48 PM I just received my third phone call from the folks at XM Radio. They were offering some expensive renewal package. I know that others, from another Forum, are getting XM for $77 a year. I told them to forget it unless I could get it for the same and I did.
Also, never give them a credit card number, ask them to bill you. They will automatically renew you at a higher rate if they have your credit card information. I know of some who are on their third year at this rate.
I know that many of us will be up for renewal as our trial period is running out, so heed this information and save a few bucks. :)
salgeek 04-11-2008, 01:07 PM Wow - thank you very much PizzaMan. So the third phone call you laid it on the line and offered what you would be willing to pay. I was going to say no to the renewal; but, at that price the answer will be yes.
Pizza Man 04-11-2008, 01:21 PM Wow - thank you very much PizzaMan.
My pleasure, sir! ;)
08MalibuLeaser 04-11-2008, 01:36 PM I have had Sirius (1 year subscriptions) for 3 years now and also I have the 3 month trial of XM until June - my question - will I be able to transfer my Sirius over to XM as I do not want to carry both radios, nor pay for both.....
Pizza Man 04-11-2008, 01:42 PM I have had Sirius (1 year subscriptions) for 3 years now and also I have the 3 month trial of XM until June - my question - will I be able to transfer my Sirius over to XM as I do not want to carry both radios, nor pay for both.....
I haven't heard anything concrete concerning the details of the merger. Perhaps someone else is more in tuned with it. This is my first experience with XM.
Schwartz 04-11-2008, 02:44 PM Thanks for the tip. I told a coworker who got a CTS a little while ago about this. His trial was almost up so he called XM and said he heard that there was a promotion for $77 a year and to send him the bill and it all worked out just fine for him.
Pizza Man 04-11-2008, 02:47 PM ....and it all worked out just fine for him.
You got to love a happy ending! :D
salgeek 04-11-2008, 08:15 PM Pizza Man - looks like you wont be getting a Christmas card for XM Radio Corp. this year. :D:D;)
Pizza Man 04-12-2008, 05:30 AM Oh, well! ;):D
MalibuCanuk 04-12-2008, 06:41 AM I bought a package that my dealer told me about, he hooked me up with a special package for first time buyers that cost me 68.00 for an additional 1 year subscription,so I have 15 months total, and he said after a year to go see him again and he could probably do it again.I already had a subscription with XM for a portable radio I installed in my HHR and at home a Roady XT,I like to listen to the Bruins and Red Sox.I don`t know if this deal is in Canada only, but talk to your dealer about it,they have a special code the give XM for this deal
Pizza Man 04-12-2008, 06:53 AM There are plenty of deals around, I'm sure. The $77 deal was the one I was sure about at the time. I wish my dealer had mentioned the extended time offer you mention. Then, I wouldn't have had to play the game. Maybe it is a Canadian only promotion.
08MalibuLeaser 04-12-2008, 08:33 AM $77/year for XM is a really good price!
Think Sirius is $100...

In comparison $6.42 a month ($77/12) is not bad considering the eariler monthly rates. However you can still get dozens of free AM/FM stations without much of a hassle. I've never owned a car with Sat radio yet. I'll try out the free subscription when my M'bu comes in. Is the $77/yr a 1 or 2 yr contract deal?
One of my friends has recently gone past his free months with XM in a new toyota. He is considering dropping it because some stations are begining to add in short commercials. Unfortunately they've already got his credit card info. This sounds like cable TV all over again.
DrD
salgeek 04-13-2008, 10:29 AM ...cost me 68.00 for an additional 1 year subscription
That's probably $250 in US Dollars.:D:eek:
Pizza Man 04-13-2008, 12:19 PM Is the $77/yr a 1 or 2 yr contract deal?
One year, Doc. I know some who are on their third renewal at the yearly rate.
Is the 30 day or 3 month trial available in Canada aswell?
MalibuCanuk 04-15-2008, 07:05 PM The 3 month trial is available in Canada, and like I said before ask your salesman to hook you up for the 1 year subscription at 68.00,he has a code he gives XM and your all set.
JJones_86 04-21-2008, 08:54 PM Hello, I have some details concerning the XM & Sirius merger. First of all, I am a Sirius shareholder and I follow up on the merger news everyday. You will not lose XM broadcasting, however, if the merger is approved by the FCC, you will not be able to get all of Sirius on your XM radio. After the merger, they are expecting about a year for the new receivers to come out to be able to accept both signals. However, as far as I understand, you will be able to get specific Sirius channels on XM, such as Howard Stern etc. The merger has been approved by the Department of Justice, and is waiting for approval from the FCC, which is expected any day now. The FCC has never ruled against a DOJ approval over a merger, so let's keep our fingers crossed.
MiracleMalibu 04-30-2008, 09:09 AM Just called my dealer about the XM radio package. Of course the salesman that i delt with wasn't in so I left him a message. I will let you know the outcome. Hopefully they offer the same package in the USA.
Pizza Man 04-30-2008, 10:11 AM Hopefully they offer the same package in the USA.If not, don't forget the $77 deal. It's out there, you may need to persuade them, but it's out there.
USA1fan 04-30-2008, 10:31 AM If not, don't forget the $77 deal. It's out there, you may need to persuade them, but it's out there.
Yep. Thanks to the folks here (and somewhere else I couldn't locate last night) I'm going from my 90 days to the $77 / 1 year deal. It was interesting, because someone from XM called our house to inform us that the trial was ending.
My wife made them aware of the fact that we were swearing off, thanks to a disagreement over improper billing in the past. But after much discussion (and some internet searching to find posts like these that quoted the $77/yr price), we bit.
(quick background story concerning the 'issue' we had with XM- I've had 6 GM vehicles with XM now, and each one has had a subscription. Unfortunately, due to some sort of miscommunications along the way, XM didn't close out the joint accounts for two of the vehicles when they were traded. This wouldn't be a bad thing except that:
1. we had our card on file (autobilled), and
2. my wife was in the habit of making a quick scan of the card statement then paying it, and didn't see the charges for XM (billed quarterly)
Long and short, we were billed over $300 extra for cars we no longer owned, and were able to prove it with XM, as well as proving that we notified them of the account change during vehicle trade-in. Their contention (after several weeks of runarounds and we'll-call-you-back) was that we should've caught it sooner, and they weren't going to credit us the overcharge. While we maybe should've caught it, that shouldn't relieve them of their responsibilities, and I told them so. At that point I cancelled all accounts.)
So now we're on the invoice system for the Malibu, and my wife refuses to have service on her vehicle. If GM offered Sirius as an option (and if there wasn't a merger under way anyhoe) I might've gone that route with the new vehicles. As it is, depending on hardware-based limitations, I may swap the factory-installed XM reciever for whatever gives me the most channels under the new combined company, whenever it becomes available.
MiracleMalibu 04-30-2008, 01:01 PM If not, don't forget the $77 deal. It's out there, you may need to persuade them, but it's out there.
Dealer called and said that they dont know of any deal in the states for $68 so when my time is up i will hit them up for the $77 deal!
Pizza Man 04-30-2008, 01:09 PM Dealer called and said that they dont know of any deal in the states for $68 so when my time is up i will hit them up for the $77 deal!
Be strong and hold firm. It may take more than one try to get the deal.
MiracleMalibu 04-30-2008, 01:11 PM Be strong and hold firm. It may take more than one try to get the deal.
Strong and firm I can do! I walked out on the salesman because he insulted me on my trade. In the end I got what i wanted out of it.
Pizza Man 04-30-2008, 01:19 PM I walked out on the salesman because he insulted me on my trade.
Same ploy works with XM, just tell them you'll leave without the deal.
08MalibuLeaser 05-01-2008, 05:55 AM So it's $77 for 1 year of XM and I just tell them that on the phone?
Pizza Man 05-01-2008, 06:08 AM So it's $77 for 1 year of XM and I just tell them that on the phone?
Tell them you know of others who are getting the $77 rate and that's all you're willing to pay. It worked for me. In fact, yesterday I received my $77 bill in the mail.

Do you pay the same rate if you have a second or third radio?
I'm paying the full rate on my vehicle and the Malibu will be $10 a month.
I think the full rate is $12.95 per month Ouch
Pizza Man 05-01-2008, 08:07 AM Do you pay the same rate if you have a second or third radio?
I can't answer that with any level of expertise. I have only one XM equipped vehicle. You're talking $155/yr for one vehicle plus an additional $120/yr for the Malibu. I guess I'd be happy paying $77 each.

I'm afraid I'm stuck for now, it is hard to haggle when they already have you.
I still may give them a call, all they can do is say no.
08MalibuLeaser 05-02-2008, 01:09 PM For the past 2 weeks I have been getting calls from XM but nobody had left a message on my phone here at work - so today I called and said that my 3 month trial will be up in June and I would like the $77 promotional rate that I've heard about. After about 15 minutes of haggling with the woman she finally caved in and gave me the $77/month discount rate - hooray for that! The reg rate is like $12.95/month - you got to be kidding me!
Eric
Pizza Man 05-02-2008, 01:26 PM After about 15 minutes of haggling with the woman she finally caved in and gave me the $77/month discount rate - hooray for that!
Sometimes you need to haggle, other times it's quite easy. Either way, $77 is worth the fight! ;):D
Now go out and enjoy it, Eric!
Pizza Man 05-02-2008, 01:46 PM Do you pay the same rate if you have a second or third radio?
Lee, here's a link to the another Forum (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/305398-post558.html). You'll see that someone just renewed two vehicles for $77 each.
SEMA project 08 05-02-2008, 02:01 PM yeah, we did the same thing, we were going to cancel after XM lost Nascar, then the operator gave in with the low price offer. of course we took it, i could care less about Nascar, the XM receiver was given to me, great deal!! one word of advise, hold out for an even better deal!!! you never know unless you ask!?!

Thanks, I was going to ask you for the name of another forum . I thought it might help to drop the names of a couple forums.
ptrakman@comcast.net 05-15-2008, 07:17 PM Great info above, I just contacted XM and got the $77.00 per year rate on both mine and the wifes Saturn Vue,($77.00 each.) but they do charge $2.00 for invoicing. Not a bad deal if your into XM. Thanks for the info pass it on.
BuckyFan 05-15-2008, 07:58 PM I haven't used satellite radio yet, but for $77 a year, I'd definately do it.
Sparks 05-24-2008, 08:02 AM I just got off the phone with XM. This is the first time they called regarding extending my subscription past the 3 month free trial. They offered 3 months at $6.99 per month but I told her I knew a lot of other Chevy owners who were able to get a year for $77. She said she didn't know about that offer but she would check with her supervisor. She came back on about 30 seconds later and gave me the $77 deal. It did cost me an extra $2 to be invoiced instead of putting it on my credit card which Pizza Man suggested in his first post. It was really easy getting this price. No hassle or arguing, just ask. Thanks Pizza Man for saving me some $$$$. I knew joining this forum was going to be worthwhile I just didn't realize it would pay off so soon.
Schwartz 06-05-2008, 11:23 AM I finally got my call.
They asked how I liked the service and I said it was just ok. They asked if I would be interested in subscribing. I then said I heard there was a deal for $77 a year and I would only be interested in that. The operator put me on hold for 10 seconds and came back and said ok. She then asked for my credit card info and I said just send me a bill. She then said there was a $2 invoice fee and if I paid with a card now I would avoid the fee. I said the fee was fine and to send me the bill and then she confirmed my address and we ended the call.
Thanks Pizza Man!
Pizza Man 06-05-2008, 11:44 AM Thanks Pizza Man for saving me some $$$$.
Thanks Pizza Man!
I'm glad it's working out for everyone. Please note, I know of some who are on their third year at this price. You just need to be persistent. That's also why you don't want to give them your CC number, they'll auto-bill you next year at the full rate.
DOACanada 06-05-2008, 06:27 PM Pizza Man - Great work....This is what makes forums so valuable.
Now - Quick question to the rest of the board....Anyone from Canada renew yet? I am guess a $77/a year program may or may not work for us here in Canada....Just wondering if any Canadians have renewed yet.
Pizza Man 06-06-2008, 11:46 AM Here you go, Chad. This link will bring you back to post #10 (http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=984&postcount=10") were fellow member, MalibuCanuck, mentions the Canadian deal he was able to get.
kevin A 06-06-2008, 01:12 PM I used the Promo Code ZWINBACK (say it like it sounds) on the phone to renew XM in our Saturn Outlook in May for the $77 deal. They checked with their supervisor and gave it to me. if they ask if you got a postcard with that code, just say "yes".
BuckyFan 06-09-2008, 06:47 AM They keep calling me and harrassing me to upgrade, which is annoying because I've only had the car a month.

Cheers!
Jay Armstrong 06-10-2008, 11:16 AM Thank you, Pizza Man!
I was able to cancel my '2-year subscription' ($271.95, payment via credit card) and replace it with a $77 1-year subscription (payment via invoice).
The entire 'transaction' was very time consuming, but painless. After being told by a 'rep' I was not eligible for the "$77 promo special", I requested a cancellation of my current service (service ending 06/20), and was then 'sent' to the 'cancellation department'. There, it was determined I "could not afford" the XM service with the '2-year package deal', and I was offered the $77 per year price.
So, I'm happy, and will be able to continue listening to the Channel 28 Broadway Show tunes for the next year.
Pizza Man 06-10-2008, 11:51 AM Excellent Jay, I'm glad it worked out. :D
kevin A 06-11-2008, 06:56 AM Note: I was told the $77 deal was a one time offer per radio ID #. After the one year is up, you may be forced to a new higher priced plan. Since we have 2 it worked out to go to the family plan at $6.99/month on the Outlook's XM radio.

Kevin, I'm sure that's what you were told, but I know of many who are on their third year at the $77 price. One other that I know of is getting the price on both his units. $6.99/month is a good price at less than $84/year.
MiracleMalibu 06-11-2008, 09:19 AM Just renewed @$77 but I had to give them the ZWINBACK code. The lady said that it would be reviewed but she did sign me up and would bill me!
Thanks Pizza and Kevin
Jay Armstrong 06-11-2008, 02:02 PM When I renewed my subscription (1 year @ $77) several days ago, I offered the ZWINBACK 'code' (when asked by the rep if I had some type of promotion), and was told the code was not applicable because "it had expired".

Did you get the $77 rate?
Jay Armstrong 06-12-2008, 05:52 PM MiracleMalibu asks: <<< Did you get the $77 rate? >>>
Yes. For one year (beginning in a week or so {I'm currently ending the XM "3 month package" for $20.97}, plus a $2 'fee' for my being invoiced.
Pizza Man 06-12-2008, 05:58 PM plus a $2 'fee' for my being invoiced.
I forgot to mention, when I received my invoice it was only for $77. They never added the $2 invoicing charge. :D
Anyone else receive their bill yet?
Sparks 06-12-2008, 06:54 PM When I talked to them yesterday they said I wouldn't receive my invoice until my 3 month trial was up (which won't be until the end of July).
JJones_86 06-13-2008, 06:00 PM I called today to renew it, and I told them that I had the promo code, but she never asked what it was and just gave me the $77/year anyways. Haha, thanks for the info guys.
I just got off the phone with them to go from trial to subscription and mentioned that I had read all over about a $77 rate. The dude tried to say that it was only for those with a promotion code and I needed it. I asked to speak with a supervisor...he put me on hold...came back and said he'll just give it to me cause the supervisor was too busy to talk to. So I got it...only thing i'm not sure about was after it was all said and done he said he was going to x-fer me someplace then all I heard was a fast busy signal.
I hope it was all taken care of but I'll call them tomorrow to verify.
By any chance does anyone know where to get these "promotion codes" they speak of? Not only with XM but other things too...it always gets me when u order things online and they ask u if u have a promotion code. I don't have any...I don't even know where to find a promotion code for anything. Do you have to leave a tooth under ur pillow so the magic fairy comes and leaves a promotion code for it? WHAT ARE THESE CODES? ( in my best Seinfeld voice)

Bass, just do a Google Search, i.e. XM Promo Codes. You'll get many hits, not that the promo code is necessary for XM.
I just called to get my subscription after my trial expires today, and I used the ZWINBACK code which was accepted without any problem. I asked to be billed, but the rep said they could not invoice me on that promotion. I had to give them a credit or debit card, or set up an automatic draft from my bank account. I just added a credit card, and will remove it before my year is up.
Jay Armstrong 06-28-2008, 11:01 AM In todays mail, I received an invoice for my 'new' 1-year service for XM . . . @ $77.00! (Thank you, Pizza Man!) There were no additional charges (such as $2 for billing by mail).
I'm mailing my payment today.
DOACanada 06-29-2008, 06:57 PM Glad to see it is still working for everyone...Anyone got an update for Canada?
MiracleMalibu 07-18-2008, 06:26 AM I called XM over a month ago to renew and my trial ran out July 5 and have been waiting to receive the bill. Yesterday it finally came and it was for $77 + tax but not the $2.00 billing fee!
Thanks for the code!!
jds54 07-24-2008, 08:31 AM I just called to sign up because trial period ends July 31st.
I could't get anywhere with rep on $77 deal everyone seems to be getting.
She told me all special offers expired and there none now.
Please respond if you have gotten $77 price within last week.
Current price is $12.99/month or $130/yr.
Any suggestions
mizzouman_2000 07-24-2008, 08:45 AM You can wait for the XM & Sirius merger.. i heard today they're going to offer a 50 channel option for around $7/mo.
Malibu Bob E 08-14-2008, 06:00 PM I have been doing this for the last 3 years and recommending it to friends. They will deal on the pricing. $77 a year, much better than the first price quoted. Call them up when you get your first bill, deal with them!

A friend on another Forum got the discount this morning. If one operator won't give it to, call back later. The $77 deal is still available. Don't agree to anything until you get the same deal or better.
Malibu Bob E 08-16-2008, 06:33 AM I pay with a cc# also, you are right - I get a yearly bill - then I call them and say I want to cancel - they transfer me to the cancellation department where their job is to talk you into staying. I told them I would stay for $77 a year and nothing else. After going thru 2 diff. rates before then, he gave me the $77 - paid with the cc#. Will do the same with the Malibu when the 3 months are up. Like I said earlier, this is my 3rd year easy of doing this. I have not tried it on 2 cars yet, but don't see a problem and it beats the family plan!

Malibu Bob E 08-17-2008, 08:01 AM Malibu Bob when does your 3 months expire?
2.5 months from now. What, around the end of Oct, I guess.
pwinskey 08-17-2008, 12:36 PM I have thought about waiting till they offer the $7 pick 50 deal between the XM and Sirius chanels but have not decided yet. I only have until the end of August to figure it out.

You're most welcome, "29". The additional $13 off is a new one on me. Nice going.
Just be sure they don't automatically renew your subscription at next years going rate.
boricua29 08-18-2008, 09:13 AM yeah, im going to have to keep track. it took a couple of threats of canceling but it was worth it.:D

Jay Armstrong 08-20-2008, 09:50 AM Via e-mail, I just received notification from XM of a new $6.99 / month 'deal'. The entire 'message' didn't open, but at the bottom of the 'message' was the following.
<<< *Nonrefundable prepayment of three (3) months of service required and service will renew automatically on quarterly payment terms after initial three (3) months. Subject to $100.00 early cancellation fee if twelve (12) months of continuous service is not maintained. You must be authorized to redeem this offer. Exclusive offer cannot be combined with other offers, expires 9/30/08, and is only valid in the 48 contiguous United States, while supplies last. >>>
Doesn't seem to be as good a deal as the $77 / year many of us at this forum are paying. ("$100 early cancellation fee . . . "? Ouch!)
pwinskey 08-20-2008, 01:02 PM Still a good deal though. Did they send this to you because your XM was coming due for renewal?
Pizza Man 08-20-2008, 01:06 PM Exclusive offer cannot be combined with other offers, expires 9/30/08, and is only valid in the 48 contiguous United States, while supplies last.
While supplies last??? What supplies?
Do you suppose after the merger people will be looking to cancel the service, therefore the cancellation fee?
Jay Armstrong 08-20-2008, 02:57 PM No. I have 9 or 10 months remaining on my current subscription, which is a '$77 rate' for one year. Probably just info sent from XM to all current subscribers.
byeuboy 08-20-2008, 02:58 PM I just got off the phone with Bethany at XM radio. My trial period has expired and I expressed my desire to renew because I liked the service sooooooo much! After explaining the plans and prices to me (no deals were mentioned) I told her that I never knew how expensive that would be ($142 for a year or $38 a quarter) and that I really could not afford to pay that for radio. She told me to think about it and I could always call them back. They have my number and I'll be waiting for them to call and make an offer I guess. I don't have to have the service but it is nice when I travel. Is that how I should play the game? Anyone gotten the discount playing the waiting game?
Jay Armstrong 08-20-2008, 03:04 PM <<< Do you suppose after the merger people will be looking to cancel the service, therefore the cancellation fee? >>>
I would guess there might be a 'less expensive' / bare bones service available after the merger, and the '$100 cancellation fee' would keep many subscribers from leaving their current 'plans'.
"While supplies last" is a puzzler, though.
Malibu Bob E 08-20-2008, 05:40 PM I got my first call tonight. After she explained when mine would expire, she asked if I had their service on another car. I said that it was on my Corvette and she said that I might be eligible for a discounted multiple plan, would I be interested? I said I am interested in a $77 a year plan only. She checked with someone and said that would be fine. I tried to work it down more and she put the supervisor on the phone, that there was no other deal with this, so I took it. Got both cars for $77 each for a year. Better than the family plan, will do this as long as I can. It still works!:)
byeuboy 08-22-2008, 07:34 AM I called XM back to try and get the $77 deal. Very unhelpful CS person. Said the $77 was a promotion and they had to contact me. I told her "then have someone call me". But she kept trying to sell me the 3 year deal. I told her if I can't get the $77 deal then we could end our conversation. She kept insisting she could not help me even after I told her that many, many other Chevy owners were getting this deal. Oh, well, I was polite but told her I would not accept anything but the low ball charley price. We hung up and here I am. I can hardly wait for the call. Then the ball will be in my court......Story at 11.
byeuboy 08-25-2008, 07:40 PM Got a renewal card in the mail today. 1 month free with a $142 1 year subscription. Wow, they wasted postage on that. I put it in the round file bin.
Malo83 08-27-2008, 12:23 PM Just renewed my XM service and recieved the $77. for one year deal :D
Appears the Promo code "ZWINBACK" is still valid, talked to a real nice girl 'Renee' and she hooked me right up ,no hassles ;)
byeuboy 08-27-2008, 09:06 PM What am I doing wrong guys? I am a guy who wants their service and have money in hand but want the "deal" also. Malo83, did they contact you or did you just cold call? Makes me feel like a dote not being able to get the "deal".
Malo83 08-28-2008, 03:24 AM byeuboy, I called because my trial period was up that day, keep calling and tell them you want the $77. dollar deal with the Promo code "ZWINBACK" that's what I did.
byeuboy 08-28-2008, 10:46 AM Thanks Malo83 for the information. I guess I'll try again.
di431 08-28-2008, 12:30 PM I could never get the $77 dollar deal either, I tried twice. I was told that they could tell if an offer was sent out to you. I went with the offer they sent to me through the mail for 6.99 a month for 3 months then 9.99 a month for 3 yrs. I'll keep checking, if anything cheaper comes up, I can get a price adjustment and if I change my mind I can cancel.
pwinskey 08-28-2008, 05:23 PM Hey everyone, I just had the easiest experience dealing with XM. I did not really know when my XM was set to expire but they called tonight and my husband was speaking with them. In the background I am telling him to say that the only deal we would accept was the ZWINBACK promotion. He asks if the ZWINBACK promotion was still on and the lady told him if he mentions it they are REQUIRED to accept it. He then told her that he wanted it to be invoiced because he does not like giving his credit card info out over the phone and she said that too would be no problem. Byeuboy I would call them up and just tell them that you want that promotion and if they refuse ask them what kind of scam they are running because you know people within the last 24 hours have gotten the deal. Wow after all the nightmare stories of having to hard ball things I was shocked at how easy it turned out to be. Good luck and keep trying. Oh and thanks Malo83 for the code!!
pwinskey 09-05-2008, 10:57 AM I signed up over the phone for the $77 and asked them to bill me in the mail. How long will it take for them to send the bill because that was on August 28th.
Pizza Man 09-05-2008, 11:02 AM I signed up over the phone for the $77 and asked them to bill me in the mail. How long will it take for them to send the bill because that was on August 28th.
If memory serves, it took very close to a month to get mine.
pwinskey 09-06-2008, 09:41 AM Thanks Pizza Man!!
Sparks 09-06-2008, 06:54 PM I renewed when they called about 1 month into my 3 month trial. They didn't send my bill until a week after my trail period had expired. They lady told me they couldn't bill me until the trial period was over.
bluedeuce4 09-07-2008, 03:30 PM My trial period ended today so i called XM Radio and subscribed for $77.00 the promo code is still good, Zwinback. Just thought i would give everyone a heads up.
Pizza Man 09-07-2008, 04:19 PM $77.00 the promo code is still good, Zwinback.
Excellent bluedeuce, I'm glad to hear you got it.
I merged your thread with the existing thread on the same topic.

I just tried the code tonight and was told it was not valid for my car. The lady said to wait until a day or so before the subscription expires and maybe then it will work.
bowtie 09-23-2008, 08:56 PM I called on 9/15 because my trial was ending on 9/18. I told them my wife had received a letter with a promo code zwinback, they asked me how much the letter said the promo was for. I told them $77 and he said ok. I then told them to send me the bill and the guy offered to take off $12..99 if I paid with debit or creditcard with auto renewal. You can cancel the auto renewal at any time. So I ended up paying $65.99 for a year. They also said when the sirius-xm programming changes we can receive a prorated credit to put towards a different programming plan(ala-carte).
byeuboy 10-03-2008, 08:52 AM Finally got "THE DEAL". A few days ago my phone rang and the number was 754-777-7777 and I didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer it. I googled the number and found out it was XM calling. Now I'm mad at myself for not answering. Anyway, yesterday the phone rings again, same 7777 number and I answer. It's XM, cool. Girl was real nice and started out trying ot sell me an XM Sirrius combo pack that was for a trial period of 3 months I think. After explaining all the options and different packages and prices I asked if I could just get the XM programming that came with the 3 month trial? She said yes I can. And she offered me the half price discount of $77 without batting an eye. I asked for further discount by putting a CC on file but she said it would only save me $2. (yes two dollars) So I signed on for a year with no automatic renewal at the $77 price. Tuned to XM#1 and the radio was working again on satellite after about 10 minutes. So, if you are waiting for that call, look for that # 777-7777 on your caller ID, it's XM.
wabbott 10-06-2008, 11:41 AM I got the deal for $77 as well with no haggling - call took all of about 6-7 minutes. I got them to send me the bill vs credit card as recommended from folks here - thanks to all.
Gromit 10-07-2008, 04:11 PM Just got the deal today. $77.00 out the door. Gave them the code and asked if I could still get it. No problemo - done deal in the above referenced 6-7 minutes.
2001FZ1 10-07-2008, 05:19 PM I called 2 days before my trial ended and was able to get the $77 deal. Not too bad I guess...
schwalbach 10-07-2008, 05:28 PM dumb question---sorta on topic. Just got my Bu and I have premium sound, found 2 speakers in a piller, 2 in doors, 2 in rear window, but where are the other two speakers???
USA1fan 10-08-2008, 08:42 AM The speakers in the rear window are 2-ways, and they consider the additional speaker in each to be the woofers (subwoofers, according to GM?).
maliblu 10-21-2008, 11:29 AM Off topic_Can anyone tell me how many station presets there are on the LTZ Sat' radio?
beach 10-21-2008, 11:46 AM Off topic_Can anyone tell me how many station presets there are on the LTZ Sat' radio?
I believe it's 36 presets in general (someone double check?), as you have pages of favorites which can be from any frequency and in any order. 6 per page, and you can set how many pages you want. In my mother's, I set it up to start with her FM's and as she keeps going up through the presets, then her XM's.
But cool you can do it in any order. And MUCH better than the old style "bands" on my G6 radio, with their own preset limits.

Correct on all counts. The ability to mix and match on any page is especially nice, as you can have something set up like 'Page 1' being all rock, with 3 local FM rock stations and 3 XM rock stations, 'Page 2' for country, etc., or just about any other combination you want.

Just got the XM Radio letter from GM they want 186 CDN for the full year.. They want to charge me 13.99/mnth instead of 14.99 how kind of them :p
I hope I can get the 77 rate but thankfully I have the radio till Jan 09 :p:
BillD64 10-26-2008, 01:17 PM Got the XM Radio letter on Saturday. Tried to get the $77 deal but they refused. Then they refused to honor the prices shown in the letter since the letter did not have Product Preference Code on it. After a lot of frustrating discussion with a supervisor (who continually refused to tell me where on the letter I should be looking for the code) he finally relented on the $6.99/mo for 3 months. Hopefully, I can talk my wife out of continuing XM in the car when the 3 months run out. It is vastly overpriced for a vehicle that spends the vast majority of its time sitting in our garage.
Bill
loomdog32 10-30-2008, 01:13 AM ZWINBACK and ZWIMBACK are both eligible.. The offer is actually for dealer sold vehicles with XM.. You need to call (or on a callback) say you want the $77 a year or you got a flier in the mail with one of the 2 codes
I have an aftermarket tuner and got the $77 deal.. My second tuner, at the "discounted" rate for multiple tuners, was $86.. The funny part, to add "Best of Sirius" a whole 10 channels, would be $10 more a month per tuner

Thank you for the codes.. I probably will wait till December when my contract expires and then try to get this.. Will see what happens :p
BoarderPH 11-24-2008, 01:04 PM Anybody tried this promotion lately? I'm curious if it's still valid...
nighthawk-24 11-25-2008, 07:02 AM Anybody tried this promotion lately? I'm curious if it's still valid...
I have not tried it yet, but I would like to. I was also wondering if the codes are still valid.
beach 11-25-2008, 07:18 AM I just got a card in the mail yesterday in reference to my Malibu's XM, directly from XM, for a special $77 year deal for "XM Everything". It has a discount code printed on it, but one that's clearly specific to my account as it says, for the factory-installed radio only. Expires December 5th, and I may do it just for ease.
I took delivery of my '09 a month and 3 days ago, if that had any effect. Maybe a few more will be getting it here.
Given experiences, it's not hard to bargain with XM like any other kind of deal. My mother had the initial free 3 months, then got her next block of months at $6.95 and nearing the end of that got a call where she said--as many do--"No thanks, I don't want to pay for radio" and the rep offered her 3 free complimentary months "because of the bad economy and we'd like to keep you listening". I don't know when that's running out, but they've been calling her repeatedly (never picks it up). She's almost to a year now, so we'll see.
I'd just respond when they call you or directly call them and say you'll do it if they can give you the $77 a year deal, without even mentioning a code. If they say no, oh well, and try again later.

Loomdog 32, My daughter wants XM in her car. How did you get the $86 deal with already having the $77 deal? Is that just the discount for a second radio? Another stupid question...do I just purchase the second radio and then set up subscription with them? I have only had XM through cars and trucks that had them factory installed so this is a bit confusing to me.
malibudragon 11-25-2008, 09:39 AM My 3 free months runs out in about 2 weeks. we've been called a couple times and got a few things in the mail but no coupon codes. I would keep it for the $77 for sure but I dont use it enough to justify a higer costs. Especially when I can just plug my iphone or some mp3s cds in the changer

Not to jump into this discussion, but I've found it useful to use the pages for a different reason (since I did not renew my XM package after 3 months).
Page 1 are Cookeville (where I live) radio stations
Page 2 is Crossville (where my parents live)
Page 3 is Knoxville (Friends and business)
Page 4 is Chattanooga (business).
I find it extremely useful, and I actually getting Page 5 to be some radio stations between here and Chattanooga

pwinskey, i just had an XM radio installed in my wifes 2000 Blazer and added it to my existing account, super simple over the net ;) had the radio installed at Best Buy and came home and activated it on the XM website, click on add a radio, enter the XM radio ID # pick a plan and your good to go. I chose the 1yr Multi Radio Family friendly Service for $83.88 and yes I have the $77. special. :D:D:D

Called this morning and IT WORKED! Thanks for posting the codes
They will try to talk you into a bunch of their other services but if you just want the $77 a year deal just 'say no'
pwinskey 12-02-2008, 10:44 AM MALO83 Thanks for explaining it to me. I am going to get on this soon because there are some good deals out there. For some reason I thought it would be a bigger problem that what you have explained!! By the way, how much did Best Buy charge? Just wanted to know how much more that added on to the overall price.
Malo83 12-02-2008, 12:57 PM Installation was $109. wife is very happy with her XM :D:D:D
JDouglee 12-02-2008, 04:56 PM I just did the 6.99 a month for 3 months extended trial. The lady from XM called today, didn't even know I had done this, and couldn't figure out how to upgrade to Best of Sirius. When the 3 months are up, I guess we'll see what happens. I like XM, but dealing with
their reps on the phone is not exactly big fun.
shfishinsticks 12-02-2008, 05:15 PM I finally got the call today.......at work. Don't know how they got that number? It's only been a month since mine had expired. Started out at the $6.99/mo for 3 months. Told them I really didn't miss it since it was gone. Then he offered me $4.99/mo for 3 months and waive the reactivation fee. I said no....how about the $77 plan. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and tried to push the $4.99 thing again. I guess I should have taken it since it is less per month than the $77 plan....but he caught me at a busy time and really didn't have the time to deal with him. I'm sure he'll call back.
Does anyone know if the '08 XM radios will work if I go directly to Sirius ? I want to get the Best of Sirius but would prefer not to pay the additional $4/ month.
JDouglee 12-04-2008, 12:54 AM I remember reading you can change a part or chip to enable your OEM XM
radio to do Sirius....not sure where I read that (don't quote me) :)
Thanks, my 3 months free just ended yesterday at 5:00 sharp. I am in no hurry to renew until they get their lineup changes worked out.
When Xm calls, I will see what kind of deal I can cut. I' think $10-$11/mo. for Xm + Best of Sirius and I will probably renew.
BoarderPH 12-12-2008, 06:44 AM Just wanted to let everyone though this deal is still going strong. I just called the 800 number and renewed using the ZWINBACK for $77 without so much as an extra question from the XM rep.

Same for me got the plan its actually 79.96 plus tax for me for the whole year.. Not bad about 7.5mnth I can live with that. I actually listen to the radio on my drive to work and when I am driving so it's good for me
Last year after the trial period was up, I signed up both cars before I found out about the $77 deal. Since I was already signed on they would not ive me the promotion price. I tried a couple more times during the year with the same result. Yesterday I called again and they said no, then I tried an email. This morning they replied and told me they changed the one car to $77. The 2nd car was already $84/year.
I could haved dropped the service for a month or two, and I'm sure they would have called asking me to sign back up at $77, but we both liked the XM too much to give it up.
I let my XM die off this past Friday. I was still considering keeping the service until they made the changes, when 3 of my favorite channels 'disappeared' with the merger so I said forget it.

Zeev, so you got it for 79.96 canadian for a year?
Correct Yurry it came out to 90.35 for the entire year so about 7.52 a month not bad as I do listen to XM 95% of the time I am driving. Not to happy with the channel switch they did but I'll stick it out as their are a few stations I listen to that still exist.
I simply waited for them to call me and say I liked it but would only continue my subscription was if I could get the 77 dollar plan which the operator gladly gave to me but said instead it was 79.96.. Either way I'm happy.

Cool. I am on extended trial right now (still not entirely sure, but with this deal it's beginning to sound like a good idea :)), when time comes I might try and get it too. If they don't give it to me I'll say I know someone who got it :)
beach 12-14-2008, 09:04 PM They've been calling me 3 times daily for the past 2 or 3 weeks and I never pick up, but should soon and try to get the same deal. Mine runs out on 1/22/09, so may as well take care of it. If no deal, I'll just wait for another rep.
malibudragon 12-15-2008, 06:39 AM Mine ends this week.. There calling everyday now lol

The key is to mention you are happy with the service but could only see continuing if you could get the 77plan.. Worked for me
Jerkyking 12-18-2008, 11:08 AM My wife's expired about three weeks ago. I was able to use the ZWINBACK code at got the $77 dollar deal this morning.
Looking at the various offers we got in the mail they all had different 1-800 numbers but I dialed 1-800-347-0600 and dialed Zero to go right to a live operator and asked if I could use the code.
It may have helped that I said it was a Christmas present for my wife.
schwalbach 01-03-2009, 12:05 PM Thank you everyone!
Just called the number and renewed with no problems using zwinback code and got $77 for the year!
Thanks everyone!
JDouglee 01-06-2009, 10:56 AM Do they want to know where you got the code from?
Malo83 01-06-2009, 11:42 AM Didn't ask me ;)
Pizza Man 01-06-2009, 11:55 AM The code is not required. You're basically negotiating price. I used no code what so ever. Tell them you know of others who are paying $77 and that's all your willing to pay.
Now, has anybody tried negotiating the OnStar pricing yet?
JDouglee 01-06-2009, 12:20 PM Good to know. :D Did anyone negotiate the Best of Sirius with these?

They refused to negotiate with me. I even talked to the manager. He refused to put through to his manager and threatened to hang up on me.
Bill
TMoneyR523 01-09-2009, 04:46 PM I think the OnStar one was a joke.. personally I find the prices for it very reasonable considering all it can do (You'll appreciate it once you find your car missing or lock your keys in the car).. I can see why they threatened to hang up on you.
Now, has anybody tried negotiating the OnStar pricing yet?
Here is the pricing
http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/popup/07_pricing.jsp
The first month I paid $18.95 for the Safe and Sound package. I called in and asked about a cheaper rate and they dropped it to $12.95/month. This is cheaper than the three year plan and I can drop it at any time.
beach 01-12-2009, 08:34 PM Just got my year for $77 too.
Called the 800 number a few posts up.
Me: "I need to get my subscription set up."
Rep: "Okay, let me look it up."
Me: "Is it possible to get the year for $77, as I just did on another car."
Rep: "Sure, we can do that."
Me: "Great. Send me the bill."
I don't know why I even bothered with the "another car" deal, but just thought I'd throw a little fib into it to be sure. They really don't try as my mother previously got 3 months for free again after saying "I like it but don't want to pay for it" and the rep responded with "well, with the way the economy is, how about we give you 3 months free and then talk again at the end of that?" Of course, she said yes.
Oh well, I'm good. Thankfully so, as I've now realized XM is the only thing I ever listen to in the car, ever.
rikmeister 01-13-2009, 09:20 PM tell the truth you like howard stern. hehehehe
Crewdawg 01-17-2009, 05:45 PM Hi ya all! I'm new here and just purchased an 08 Red LTZ on 1-13-09 I had the XM working for the first couple of days, then they shut it off! I was wondering what the $77 dollar price gets you? is that the mostly music package (60 channels) or the full monty?
Crewdawg 01-19-2009, 01:21 AM Whats up with the $77 deal? Is it the 60 channel package or the full package?
beach 01-19-2009, 06:02 AM Whats up with the $77 deal? Is it the 60 channel package or the full package?
It's the same complete XM Everything 170+ channel lineup that's regularly $12.95 a month. Still should be that, but XM has gotten into the mode of bargaining with people to stay on and pay at least a discounted rate rather than be gone all together.
beach 01-19-2009, 06:22 AM Add another one to the list. My mother has been playing the "please cancel it" game for a year now, and when she did it again over the weekend in regards to removing her credit card from the account she got "Well, how about we do $77 for a year, will that keep you subscribed?" Sure, and she's now set until 2010, about a week after I subscribed to the same. Actually, she told me it was "$70", not $77, but she tends to round down. I'll wait and see her bill.
Makes me wonder, if it was about $77 a month regularly if people would do it...or if we'd all then try to bargain for half price of that? It's likely become a concern at XM, but any business is better than none, though I still wonder.
Speedster 02-01-2009, 11:01 PM Hello! Happy new malibu owner here! I'm really enjoying the XM radio so far. I'm not sure if it is worth $13/month after my free trial expires, though. Does anyone have experience with XM discounts if you don't initially renew? Do they offer you a special deal? Any feedback appreciated.
Wisconsin Proud 02-02-2009, 06:41 AM Find somebody that has XM and have them add you to their plan. It cuts the rate to $10/month for two people to share and even more if you have three or four radios on the same plan. I just cut a check for $350 for the 35 months left on my lease. Now I wont have to worry about being disconnected and renewing again.
TMoneyR523 02-02-2009, 06:49 AM It's totally worth it! Like someone else said.. take advantage of the multi-year discounts or see if someone will put you on their plan.. it cuts the radios subscription down to $78ish/year.. at least that's how mine is.. but we have a couple cars registered..

I merged Threads, so the one you started is now combined with this Thread. Just trying to kepp things tidy. :)
Tom_D 02-02-2009, 09:41 AM I purchased my Malibu in December and XM called me last week with an offer of $7.99 for three months then back to the regular price for the remainder of the year. I told him that I read about the $77 dollar deal online, he put me on hold, talked to his supervisor, and gave it to me. No promo code, no reference to where I heard it, they just gave it to me.
alivingMalibu 02-02-2009, 07:30 PM Just got the year for $77.00 - no hassle and no questions asked.
beach 02-09-2009, 07:01 PM This is just strange...
On my '09 Malibu, I had the 3 month free trial like any other GM vehicle. That was to run out last month so I called & renewed at $77 for a year and requested that I be sent a bill. The bill came last week & I sent it back with a check the next day.
I've never had anything but perfect service, the entire time. Today I come home to a phone message saying that there was an error with my account and I was supposed to have a 2 year free trial, not just the initial 3 months, and that would be instead now starting today (I think). As I had paid the $77, that was now being refunded and, at least according to the initial voicemail, I was supposed to refresh my XM radio, because of this.
Okay. The only thing I could possibly think of was that special 2 year free XM, 2 year free Turn by Turn Onstar, and 2 year free maintenance GM was offering back in the fall on the Malibu & Traverse in the DC & Delmarva areas. I would have gotten that had I bought, but with this as a lemon repurchase replacement, my salesperson was told it didn't count...regardless, I then forgot about it. Was it this, just now being sorted out by GM?
http://www.chevyfirst.com/
Was it some other kind of random XM thing, all alone? I have no idea.
But apparently, as of this evening, I have 2 free years, by doing nothing. Now I wonder, if it is that GM offer, if the other things are also true...or what it is...
Free beats $77, I guess, hah.
tke124 02-09-2009, 08:43 PM Does anyone know if there any current 09 XM renewal deals..mine three months is up next month and I would like to renew. Thanks
beach 02-10-2009, 04:53 AM Does anyone know if there any current 09 XM renewal deals..mine three months is up next month and I would like to renew. Thanks
The main thing would be to get the $77 for a year by asking...that's pretty much the best deal you'll get, and you'll not have to worry about it again for a year.
JDouglee 02-10-2009, 11:38 PM Does anyone know if there any current 09 XM renewal deals..mine three months is up next month and I would like to renew. Thanks
If they have your phone number, you'll probably be getting a call soon.
and you'll not have to worry about it again for a year.
Rumor is XM will be filing for bankruptcy soon, you better see if you can get just a 3 month extension.

TMoneyR523 02-11-2009, 11:02 AM And no.. I won't settle for Sirius only..
hoahai 02-13-2009, 06:46 PM I love XM music. I not only listen it on car but also on line at home. I renewed it last week with $77 deal like everybody here and now learned that they are ready to file bankruptcy (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/13/AR2009021301690.html?hpid=moreheadlines). I don't care about Sirius and could not believe that they paid $500 mil for Martha Stewart and Howard Stern!!!
Pizza Man 02-13-2009, 08:10 PM I will die and shoot myself if I lose XM just FYI
Not necessarily in that order, I'd guess! :D
TMoneyR523 02-14-2009, 08:56 AM hahaha no I meant I would shoot myself in the face and die if I lost XM
Funny you said that I didn't even realise how STUPID I look writing out of order.
That's it, I canceled XM. Mostly out of principle.
Here's the full story:
After my free trial ended, I signed up for the extended trial. I didn't listen much to XM during the free trial, so I thought I'd give it a chance.
After my extended trial ended early this month they automatically renewed me on standard rate quarterly billing. I didn't like it much and called them trying to get close to 77$ canadian for a year (which a Canadian forum member got last December).
They wouldn't budge. Their best offer was 98$ CAD (or something close to that) and I pulled the plug.
I find the way they're doing business is quite frustrating...It's all this funny stuff, some getting this some getting that...Screw that, this is a non-essential service and I pay many bills as is not to get the lowest price possible...There's lot's of free music out there :)

What exactly is the "extended trial"? My 3 month trial ends this month. I am only considering XM because I may like the baseball game coverage, but I won't know until April when I can try that out, so an extended trial would be awesome.
At the end of the first 3 free months I had an option to sign up for 3 more months for something like 4.99 canadian a month. That was called the extended trial. Maybe it's a canadian thing, I don't know.
If you let your XM subscription lapse, tune in to the XM band and use the search button. Apparently XM is teasing us with about a half dozen stations for free. I don't know how long it will last.

The extended trial gives you 3 months at $6.99 per month. Its interesting how they treat people. When I called about getting the $77 deal they absolutely refused to grant it everytime I called. However, they gave it to my daughter for her 08 Tahoe. For a while they were refusing to give me the extended trial price even though I had a flyer from them offering it to me.
The latest aggravation came at the end of the trial. I requested they move the radio over to a family plan. They agreed but kept having problems with the paperwork for a month. Then they sent me a bill for $17 for that month. Needless to say the bill went into the round file.
Their sales people seem to forget their service isn't a requirement and is purely a discretionary purchase. They might start to understand that when the company goes out of business due to lack of Customers.
If you are going to play around with them do not ever give them a credit or debit card number as they will just keep charging it. Tell them you will pay the extra service charge to be sent a bill. That way you can break away from them. They are just as bad as AOL used to be.

Yeah some of the previous sirius channels are free until March 25th, I was a former Sirius customer and I got the letter in the mail saying it was free and offering a special deal to come back to sirius.
rikmeister 03-17-2009, 09:51 PM there should be no price difference in canada. you are just connecting to a sateilite it is not like they had to launch a special sat just to serve canada. tell them you will pay in usd see what price you get quoted
the pricing is a bit different for Canada...for instance ZWINBACK is a US only promotion.
Looks like the $4.99/month deal is still on until April 15th.
Reactivate now at 60% off, and pay just $4.99 a month for 6 months* with FREE activation.

Here's how I did it....
Hit the OnStar button and they will connect you.
I added the $4.99 for 6 months deal to my existing XM on my Honda Accord. If they balk at this then ask them to drop the service all together and they might change their mind to keep you.
TMoneyR523 03-22-2009, 01:15 PM OnStar has nothign to do with XM though..

That is correct, but they can connect you to an XM operator and also pass along your radio ID # like they did for me in my Buick. Very convenient.
DarkGriffin 04-08-2009, 09:02 AM Well, I have to say thank you for the info my service was ending soon and XM keeps calling me. So after reading everything on the forum I told her I was going to go with the year service. I think she said something like $140.00. I then said well, a few of my friends say they get a year for $77.00 and she said "sure we can put you on that plan" i thought it was too good to be true. After hearing what many of you go through and never get it. Oh yeah and I had them bill it to me.
Thanks again
sciaccatani 04-10-2009, 05:43 PM Good to know that the $77 a year plan is still available... Thanks!
engineer25 04-11-2009, 09:22 AM Is the $77 price for the whole shebang(XM + the best of Sirius)?
Dash8-300 04-11-2009, 06:12 PM Does XM do billing in Canada? When I got the call they wanted visa/mastercard to renew. I was offered the one year for $77 also. I gotta buy minutes for the phone also and they also take visa/mastercard.

No I asked that! They still want 4.99. Its the same channels as the 3 free months

Yes, they do.
So, you're getting 77$ in Canada? I don't understand how they come up with their offers to people.
hrdcorliftr33 04-12-2009, 10:14 AM Cool thanks for the tip.
b4youreyes 04-15-2009, 03:50 PM I called and they gave me the deal as soon as i asked, with the catch that they need a card on file, which will automatically renew the contract
zog1977 04-16-2009, 10:57 AM they just called me. i renewed for 77 bucks for a year. no questions asked
cavalier2000 04-16-2009, 02:27 PM hmm i guess i am going to have to try this
redhorse 04-16-2009, 04:08 PM I just called. After I got through voice mail h*ll and just pressed zero, I got a real person, told her I wanted to renew for a year at $77 (XM Everything) and she told me since I knew about the special, they would give it to me. This forum and all the very wise people on it just saved me some $$$!
BillD64 04-17-2009, 06:48 PM They continually refused to give the $77 deal to me. They gave it to my daughter for her new Tahoe but not me. So I canceled and put it on a family account I have access to at $84 per year. It took them a month to transfer the radio and they wanted to charge me for $20 for that month. They sent a bill which went in the trash can. Haven't heard from them in a month now.
Bill
shaqdaddy34 05-06-2009, 05:05 PM I just got a flyer in the mail this week promoting the XM everything for $77 or XM everything + Best of Sirus for $9.99 for 3 months. My 3 month trial ended in March and I have called to get the $77 deal that I read about on here, and they would never give it to me. I'm going to call them tonight and try and get it.
shaqdaddy34 05-06-2009, 06:15 PM Well, I just called and finally got reconnected for $77. I told them I did not want to give them a credit card and they said they would charge me $2 for sending me an invoice. Fine. She also said that once the year was up they would send me another bill to renew at a cheaper rate (but not as cheap as the $77). So, once that comes around I may "cancel" again. Finally, get my XM back. I really missed it, but didn't really want to pay regular price for it. $6.42 a month isn't that bad at all.
DDMay87 05-06-2009, 09:45 PM There was a regional promotion where I bought my Malibu (Northern Virginia)... I get XM two years free :D
slhaas 05-07-2009, 03:43 PM My 3 months expired and I called XM stating I really hand't had time to try it out. I wanted to see how the baseball PBP was and baseball season had just started, so they gave me a 1 mo extension. That was set to expire today, and I got a call on Tuesday night offering me 6 months for under $30. I forget the exact amount as I asked them to invoice me, but it was under $30, and I believe he stated I can renew at that rate. This is for "XM Everything" and is by far the best deal I've heard of so far. I wasn't given a code or anythign like that, but will post anything I find when the invoice arrives. I tried to log on to the XM web-site today to check, but their account services seem to be down.

Hey slhaas - if you can go online and view your account and let us know the code I'd be very thankful. My trial ended April 30. When I called, the only deal I was offered was 3 months for $6.99/mo. So your deal is better and I'm glad I held out -- if I can get the same promo as you.
Does anyone know if lifetime is still offered and if so how much?

I looked and it doesnt show anything yet, so I don't have a code. It doesn't even show that I owe them anything yet. It was 6 mo @ 4.99/mo.
sciaccatani 05-07-2009, 11:55 PM I got a postal mailing today telling me my 90 day trail ended the end of May. It only listed the same higher rates as their webpage quotes. No real discounts beyond a free month if you prepay in full for a year at their higher rates. No mention of the $77 a year deal. I will renew for a year at that price but won't at a higher rate... heck I just listen to the music and that is $9.99 a month, payable monthly... no prepayment required... I'll use my Ipod more then...

Call and ask for another rate... or let it lapse. If they shut your service off and you don't immediately renew, they'll start calling you to entice you back... with deals.
sciaccatani 05-09-2009, 12:32 PM I have till June 1st so I'll wait till the end of May before calling them and asking them about the $77 rate and special... Thanks...
Pizza Man 06-02-2009, 11:45 AM I just got off the phone with XM. I told them to cancel the service due to the price listed in my bill ($155.40/Yr.). I was then offered 5 months for $19.99. I said fine, sign me up for the 5 month promotion and also the following year for $77. That was a no go. He said they would contact me at the end of the five months and offer me another "Promo".
I'm pleased. :)
TMoneyR523 06-02-2009, 12:05 PM I just got the notice of my renewal and I saw the $155.40 on our primary vehicle too.. and the 2nd one wasssssss idk like $80?
I refuse to call I feel bad everyone's getting discounts LOL they're gonna go bankrupt like GM if we all discount!
If you don't call them they will call you.
sciaccatani 06-03-2009, 12:38 AM They called me last week... offered the higher price renewal... I mentioned the $77 for the year rate.. they immediately said OK... and that was all there was to it!
luckycat 07-24-2009, 07:41 AM I called yesterday and got the half off for a year rate no questions asked. Even if they file for bankruptcy the service should continue and hopefully emerge as a stronger company (sound familiar) however I haven't read the news...
Sparks 07-30-2009, 05:25 PM XM subscription was supposed to run out yesterday. I switched phone numbers since I first got XM so I called them. I told the rep I would re-up for the $77 price I got last year. He said that wasn't available on "his screen" so I said I would just let the subscription expire. I mentioned that last year it was the "zwinback" code, he typed that in and up came the $77 offer. He gave it to me and said they would bill me again and didn't even try to get a credit card.
Red LTZ 08-02-2009, 09:14 PM Thank you to all. I just got my first mailing from XM to sign up at the regular price. I am one month into the new car trial and I like it, but not at the prices quoted in the mailing. The cheapest rate was $428 for three years. I like it, but not THAT much. $77 a year would get the job done though.
MiracleMalibu 08-03-2009, 07:55 AM I just renewed my XM for the second year and got it again for $77 and didn't have to provide any discount codes.

Wait, there's a lifetime membership????
Schwartz 08-04-2009, 11:02 PM I called XM today and said my subscription was about to expire and I would like to renew at the same rate I had last year. The guy said he couldn't do that because it was a promo. I said ok transfer me to the cancel guy. I told the cancel guy that I guess I needed to cancel. He asked why and I told him. He said he could do that price and set me up. He said it was only for 1 more year though. We'll see when next year rolls around. If they don't do it again I will cancel. The only thing keeping me is the reduced rate.
Sparks 08-05-2009, 06:03 PM XM is now adding a "music royalty fee" to all subscriptions. They don't mention this when you sign up.

What's the phone number on that notice? My trial just ended sometime between 8AM-Noon today :).
Sparks 08-12-2009, 01:10 PM Tell them you want the ZWINBACK code for 1/2 off a years price. Don't forget they will now add a music royalty fee of about $12 on top of the $77 subscription price. With taxes it turns out to be almost $94.
TonyBu 08-12-2009, 05:48 PM What's the phone number on that notice? My trial just ended sometime between 8AM-Noon today :).
877-253-3846 and tell them to bill you, this way they won't have a CC on file to automatically renew you at their regular price of $159 once your year is up. Mine came out to $77 + $2 for then to invoice me. Nothing else, no royalty fees no tax.
KenM10759 08-19-2009, 06:31 AM My car's XM went dead during the night on Sunday/Monday. I got around to calling them yesterday. The name on the "trial account" wasn't mine, but someone at either the dealer where I picked it up (now closed, than you GM) or at GE Fleet Services.
So I gave the CSR my information, including name address and phone number. I explained it was a company car and the company would NOT be renewing, that I'd have to pay. So she got all my info and quoted me the $140-something rate. I mentioned the $77 rate and right away she said "Oh I'm sure we can do that." After a few more minutes, she started telling me "OK, you're all set now for the $77 rate", and her voice volume dropped, speed picked up and she mumbled something about a "$12.95 charge for a total of...". I stopped her right there and said "What was that additional charge for?"
Now she explained "it's a royalty fee the government says we have to charge all customers." I told her we were done, and I'd now be listening exclusively to broadcast radio. If they call back and make it $77, I'll do it, but not a penny more. I'd rather donate $60 to NPR and feel better about myself than get taken for an extra fee.
ptrakman@comcast.net 08-20-2009, 03:00 AM XM WARNING... It does not matter if you have a bill submitted so they won't slam your credit card for renewed service. I took the posted advice and did get the special pricing for $77..00 both for my Malibu and Saturn and requested an invoice be sent. All was well untill my subscription expired . Two months have passed and now I am getting invoiced for the service that I elected not to renew. I called to question the invoice and after being presured into renewing new service (at a much higher rate) which I passed on, I was then transferred to "the dept, to cancel" my previous service. Yep! you got it ,you are put in a hold pattern forever after 22 mins. I hung up. This should be noted "It is your responsibility to call and go through all the BS to cancell your service or you will be billed for service you elect not to continue. Now I am getting calls explaining my service will be interupted if I do not pay a bill I did not request. When I explain I do not want the service they transfer you to the hold pattern number .. XM Can kiss my behind.
KenM10759 08-20-2009, 05:29 AM How nice, what they did to you. I'm feeling much better now about just letting it go. They can kiss my butt too. When they treat me right, they'll get my business. Until then, there's lots of other radio stations out there, and many of them have less commercials!
malibudragon 08-20-2009, 08:12 AM I had no problem canceling mine.. I called in and told the rep I did not want it to renew and they transferred me to the cancellation department who tried to offer me some deals but I declined and that was that.. I was only the phone maybe 5-6 minutes..

Just write "CANCEL" on the invoice and send it back! Total cost= 0.44 postage :)

Good advice, Tony.
I've heard you can avoid the royalty fee, but I can't verify that yet.

Trend1 08-21-2009, 04:08 PM Just renewed for the $77 deal plus tax...no royalty fee.

Excellent, fellas. Way to go! :)
KenM10759 08-22-2009, 06:06 AM How did you negotiate around the royalty fee? Did you have to ask for a supervisor or what? When I called a second time, the rep seemed rather firm about adding that, so I declined and told her to just call me if they change their mind. I told her as nicely as I could that they "could have $77 from me, or zero."

In my case I was never told of such a royalty fee just $77 plus tax for a total of around $83.
TonyBu 08-22-2009, 07:11 PM Same here, never a mention of the royalty fee :D
Jetstorm 08-23-2009, 10:38 PM Just got the first XM mail offer in the mail this past week. No mention of the one year/$77 deal. Should I wait until XM contacts me by phone or should I initiate contact. Our free trial does not expire until late October so I've got time. Money is tight right now but my wife really loves the XM radio and we want to keep it. We'll do it if we can get this rate.
Sparks 08-27-2009, 04:35 PM After dealing with XM and their customer service it is no wonder they are having financial difficulties. Here is my adventure. My subscription ran out at the end of July. I called on 7/29 and told the customer service rep (who had a distinct foreign accent) that I would renew for the $77 deal. After a couple of minutes he found it when I mentioned the ZWINBACK code. He doesn't mention a royalty fee at this point. I tell him to send me a bill instead of giving my credit card. A few days later I get a bill for about $163. I call customer service again and get a female (with the same distinct accent) and tell her about the bill and the $77 deal I agreed to. She tells me another bill is coming that will be for $95 because of the royalty fee added to the $77. We discuss this issue a bit but she says she can't do anything about it. About a week later the 2nd bill arrives for about $95 but when I add up all the things on the bill it should be $92. So I call customer service and speak with another female (again sounding like she is located somewhere other than the United States). I explain to her the miscalculation of the bill and she starts adding things up on her end. She now adds an invoice fee of $2 (which is not on my bill I have in hand) and tells me I owe $98 instead of the $95 that the invoice states or the $92 that I calculated. By now my frustration is coming to the top so after going back and forth with her I tell her forget the whole thing and ask to be connected to the cancellation department. She transfers me over to that department and it seems like I am now talking to someone located in the USA. I calmly explain to this young lady my whole story. She tells me to hold on for a minute. She comes back on the line and tells me she is sending me a bill for $77. That's it. No royalty fees. This was about 8 days ago. Today I get an invoice from XM for $73 total with taxes. I am sending the check in tomorrow. So anyone who is having difficulty getting the $77 deal I suggest you keep pushing the issue because obviously they can and will make that deal to keep you.
Was on hold at least 4 times and told that ZWINBACK was a one-time offer. However, after I threatened to discontinue service, I received the $77 ZWINBACK rate for the second year. I did pay the $19.56 royalty fee (total $96.56). I also refused to give XM a credit card # advising them that I had been stung by major on-line internet service and just wanted to be billed and pay with check.
09Maliblu 09-05-2009, 08:41 AM I got a renewal notice in the mail with prices for different lengths of renewal. The fine print mentioned the royalty fee. For a year it was $142+royalty+tax.. I called XM the day before my free trial expired. The guy I spoke to just offered the same prices I got in the mail. I told him I heard some people renewed for a year for $77. He said, "since you know about that we can offer a one time renewal at that price". I didn't think they would negotiate on the royalty fee so I didn't even try. With the $77 dollar renewal plus the royalty fee it came to $88 plus tax. The guy said it was only a one time deal and when it ran out I would have to renew at the regular price. I guess I'll wait and see. From what everybody is saying, I think I'll probably get a discount again next year and then I'll make sure to try to get the royalty fee waived too.
Sparks 09-05-2009, 12:29 PM I got the $77 for two years in a row. The second year was a little more of a hassle (see post above) but no operator said anything about not getting it the second time.

Beau Tie 09-22-2009, 11:27 AM I just got off the phone with XM now that my trial ran out today. I mentioned I have a promo code for $77 for the year. She was happy to oblige, but I did have to pay the royalty fee. I ended up paying:
$77.00 XM Everything
$11.78 Royalty Fee
$5.33 taxes
----------------------
$94.11 Total
CuLaTerZ 09-28-2009, 10:09 AM I just called XM after my initial 3 month trial is about to end. I told the girl on the phone that I wanted the 1 year for $77 promotional deal. She said no problem and I'm signed up! It was that easy!
Jetstorm 10-17-2009, 04:06 PM Have gotten several XM promotions in the mail. Our free trial was set to expire next week. The best deal they offered was $6.99 a month for three months, while the one year plan was 142.45. Tax and everything, three months is $24.18. I did the math.
Zwinback + royalty fee for one year, according to the board= $94.11
Three month plan, $24.18 X 4 = $96.72
Difference= $2.61
Is a savings of $2.61 worth picking up the phone and calling XM, and maybe getting the deal easy, but maybe having to haggle and fight and scream and holler and otherwise having some unpleasantness? Of course, XM could jack the price upon renewal, and it could end up costing me more money long term.
I thought about it long and hard, and decided to just do the three month deal. Money is tight anyway this month and $24.18 makes less of a dent than $94.11 all at once. If XM tries to jack me up in three months, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
closer9 10-17-2009, 05:44 PM I just renewed mine a week or so ago. Trial ran out, and I just forgot about it. They called me a few days later and offered 5 months for $19.95 ($3.99/month), no fees other than taxes. I quickly said yes, and told her to take off the auto renew. Came to $23 and some change for 5 months. :) I'll just hold out, and see if they call again when this runs out. I used to think I could live without satellite radio, but local stations suck. I was with Sirius since early 03, then switched to XM early 08, it was a rough few days when XM expired... :)
KURLY 10-17-2009, 09:41 PM I was able to renew mine twice for 3 months at a time at $6 and change a month. I received a renewal bill last week for $47 for 3 months. I called and asked for the $77 special but was told I could buy the service for over $500 for life time service. I said NO WAY! Told the girl to forget it and hung up. I called again the next day and tried again and was told I had to have a discount coupon and to watch my email the next few days. I thought about it for two days and decided to call and cancel. When I called the THIRD time and told the girl that I wanted to cancel she came up with deal for $88 a year and when it expired to call and renew for the same price. I told her that I wanted a bill in the mail [no credit card] and she said "no problem". I'm satisfied now.:)

That lifetime deal, is that for the life of me, or the car???? If it's my life, then no problem. On the other hand if it were the life of the car then my worry would be that I would sign up for the service then some drunk would hit me and total the car.
engineer25 10-18-2009, 07:59 AM It's for the life of the radio it's connected with. If you can figure out some way to put this radio in the next car you get, then your golden.
KURLY 10-18-2009, 08:32 AM The girl asked me if I was going to keep my car 3 yrs or longer and if I was the lifetime deal would be the way to go so I presume the service is only for the car as long as "I" own it.
