: Do you all think this is a good deal?

I have a 2008 2LT Malibu with a 4-cylinder, and I regret not getting a V6. So lately I have been looking around and found a used 2011 Malibu LTZ with the V6 and sunroof for $21, 495, it has 13,000 miles, here is the link.....

http://www.premierechevy.com/?http://dealers.aultec.com/v/?DealerId=7721&Type=U&F=1

I went and drove it, and it is in good shape, and they will sell it to me for $20,995. Just wondering if you all thought this was a good deal or if I should work the price down more?

Just punched it into Kelly Blue Book as a certified car and it came back with about $23,100. :D

So yeah at $20,900 it seems like a good deal to me, I wouldn't call it the deal of century but then again they ain't giving the things away free. :p

I am sure you know but check the car fax that it hasnt had major work done or was a rental or fleet car that had the shit beat out if it. :)

Take it on a LONG test drive and make sure it doesn't vibrate...

You can click on the link and follow the details and locate the car.

its been in a wreck. This was a RENTAL car!

Minor or moderate damage

the SELLING dealer bought it at an auction on 10/03/2011 with 13,135 miles on it.

Here's the CARFAX.

If the selling dealer didn't offer to show you the CARFAX on this vehicle, its probably because of the wreck.

My PERSONAL opinion. (1) I'd NEVER EVER buy a RENTAL car. Rental cars are so abused.
(2) I'd not buy a car that had been in an accident without a substantial reduciton in the price.

THANKS!! I was about ready to go down there and buy it. I would never buy a rental car either. I usually do not buy used cars, but this seemed like a good deal, I totally forget about carfax though, so thank you very much.

I'm glad I posted that note!

CarFax doesn't detail accidents. Only a generalization.

The only way to get a detailed information of the wreck would be from the police dept where it happened.

you'd probably have been pissed if you had bought that car, and later found all of this out!!!!! (and I'm sure the dealer would not have volunteered the information). this dealer does have access to CarFax, I'm surprised they didn't show you one (but then again, a rental and wrecked....that would have blown their chances of selling it).

I think the OP's decision is made.

(1) He's not interested in a RENTAL car (which it is).

(2) He's not interested in a RENTAL car that's been in a front end collision (which it is).

The CARFAX revealed both.

These are the best deals I found in the order I think offers you the best bang for your buck...

I must have been lucky then, my car was a hertz rental and had 48K miles put on it in one year. I bought it at 48K and I am now at 71K about 1 1/2 years past buying it. All I have done is one fuel injector which was no big deal (I got paid to do warranty work on my own car:D), tires, and front brakes.

I agree with your choice not to buy a wrecked car, they can be a nightmare even if they look good. The was one malibu that came in with 9000 miles on it the was wrecked as a rental and fixed poorly. The harness to the PCM was stripped bare in spots and shorting out randomly.

Thanks for the links. I was looking in my area, and there are a few 2011 V6 Malibus for sale, but they all apear to be former rental cars. So I think I am just going to wait and keep my open. I am still paying on my 2008, and do not drive it very much, so I will wait till I have a little more equity in it.

I am sure a rental car could be a good car. It is just the unkown that scares me. With rental cars you never know if they were beat to death, adn who drove them. I personally would just prefer to not take that chance.

That's your best option IMHO. If I were you, I'd wait for the 2013 Malibu to debut and then snatch up a current generation Malibu for cheap.

I wish Carfax did a better job with their reporting. When I bought my Malibu, it said it was never a rental vehicle (Bought 9 months old with 8100 miles), but the title came from Alamo.

Mine also says at this time that there was an accident very similar to the vehicle by the OP. Mine was confined to basically peeling the plastic bumper cover off the front end and a small wrinkle in the hood. The grill work and headlights didn't even move or break (no airbag involvement). Some guy turned left in front me and I couldn't get stopped quick enough. He claims the light turned yellow and the only witness said cars that were turning right (4 lane roadway) had time to stop, but that she was looking away when the wreck actually happened. No fault kicked in, so each insurance company paid their own.

Until 4 years ago, I also would never buy a rental and still won't buy an accident car.
I work for a small rural dealership that is one that lost it's franchise in 2009. We're now a used car lot with a downscaled full service department. We sell about 240 cars a year and about 1/3 are ex daily rentals.

I agree that you can get a rental that's been abused but I'd say 8 of 10 that we get are good. The ones that I conside bad ones are full of stone chips, door dings and cigarette burns in the seats.
Our dealership doesn't knowingly buy accident cars but with rental fleets there is often evidence of the bumpers or a quarter being painted and it doesn't show up on car fax.

Anyway, I just bought my 2011 2LT as an ex rental with 20,000 miles on it and paid half the price of a new one.
I consider that to be a deal for sure.

I've only put 600 miles on the car since getting it but both my wife and I really do like it a lot and the i4 is just fine.
We traded in a 2007 CTS and size wise it's about the same but obviously much better in the snow and on gas.

Anyway, to the OP, good luck in your search.
