Just like the title says, I bought my 2nd 7th generation Malibu on Thurs last week. I traded my 2011 Silver 4cyl LTZ in on a 2012 Camaro 1SS in Oct of 11. Long story short, I have been freaking out over keeping my Camaro in like new condition. It has been a tad over 6 months and just over 6K miles on the Camaro and I always worry where I park, etc. etc. I have now popped out my 3rd door ding and needed a daily.

I found one of the last 2012 summit white 1LZs in Texas with Ebony (to match the 'maro) and pulled the trigger. Got a smokin' deal and back in a smooth driving good gas mileage 87 octane sipping Malibu. Those of you hating on the 7th generations, I don't get it.

Now I have the best of both worlds Malibu as a daily and Camaro to bring out for nice weather and car shows. The 7th Gen is a very very nice car!!

Hi everyone. I've done my research on these forums about the infamous transmission issues. I think I have the same problems. About a month ago, I noticed a big difference in acceleration, especially at slower speeds. The transmission shifts gears later (it revs to higher RPMs.) And lastly the transmission "hangs" where it takes a second before it accelerates, during which it's hanging at a high RPM (3000-4000.)

First, does this sound like the alleged transmission issue?

Secondly, I finally took my car to the dealer today. It's at the GMC/Buick dealer, since it's much closer and we've been going there for many years. Because I can't describe the issue that well and there aren't any engine lights on, I'm very, very afraid the dealer won't find anything. To anyone else, it will probably feel like a typical four-banger. But since I've been driving it for almost a year now, I can feel the huge difference since a month ago. If they tell me they can't find anything, what should I do? I can take it to a Chevy dealer, but how will that help?

(FYI....it's a lease car. 2011 LT with 4 cylinder. I got it with 6,700 miles and it has about 17,500 now. Got it last June.)

Luckily there's a powertrain warranty on it! Took it in, found out a spark plug was cracked. Got that fixed and it's been fine. Until this week- payment #2 mailed. Started doing it again. Took the car to dealership. Once again, cracked spark plug....... is this a common occurance, something we have to live with, or should I start thinking of trading it in?

Just for curiosity, I checked my car with an OBDII scanner and it displayed trouble code P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit.

Why my "Service Engine Soon" light never lit up to tell me that there was a trouble code? And I know that my "Service Engine Light" bulb is not burnt out because when I turn the key to the ON position it shows the "Service Engine Soon" light lit up and when I START the engine it goes away.

So, does this mean that there's a Check Engine light around in my car's display besides my Service Engine Soon light? Remember my car is a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS V6 3.1L.

And what does this trouble code P0650 mean and how to fix it?

I know these are too many questions but if you guys could help with them it will be really helpful! :)

Recently bought a Chevy Malibu as a daily driver for my new, and longer, commute, figured it'd be a good idea to join the forum to learn a little about the cars. The Malibu made all the sense in the world, especially buying a 2012 on Employee Pricing, plus the rebates/incentives.

Anyway, other cars currently at the house include an '86 K30 diesel (bought it surplus from the Army), '90 Miata (turbo'd) and a 2004 Jeep Liberty.

seems like many cooling system problems..and I have read and read and read...
so here's my dilema...
Replaced: head, ITM, Plenum gaskets, thermo, temp sensor, water pump.
pulled all three relays, verified coil engagement and ohmed out contacts. seem ok.
Fans come on with A/C, and heater.
Here's the problem. If the car is left to oeprate it's way, it will heat up enough to boil out the coolant. Yes already checked to see if cracked block or head with block tester. No indications either condition exists. Pressure tested cooling system, all is fine. Even did a compression check just for the laughs. No there haven't been many with this car lately.
I can coax the fans to operate at around 195*F IF I switch something (A/C, Heater, recirc)...anything that would normally drive high speed or low speed fans. Once on, they stay engaged, even if whatever turned them on is shut down, and will stayed engaged (usually low speed) until vehicle is shut down. Temp will hover around 196* F. It will not purge fluid under this condition.

I have computer scan equipment, and just can't bear to watch the temp rise above 217*F just out of fear, so can't tell you where the threshhold would be IF the PCM would decide enough is enough and turn them on. I can see the relays, which the software says chks out, and the fans come on, when I coax them to. And here's an FYI, in THIS car, cooling fan #1 is passneger side.

Any ideas where to go next? I don't have a wiring diagram for the car (yet) but I am wondering IF some of this circuitry is wired through interior climate controls. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Just went in for an oil change at the local autoshop and after lifting up the car they brought me over and showed me that my right tire was loose and wobbly because of the ball joint. In order to fix the problem they said the Control Arm would have to be replaced as well and an alignment would have to be done as well.

They priced everything out to about $350

$150 Control Arm With Ball Joint
$49 Wheel Alignment
$118 Labour
+tax

This looks like a serious issue as I could loose steering control, everything seemed fine on the drive home. I will be calling shops in the morning for quotes but I am just wondering if this is the actual cost and if I need this done.

Thanks!

Edit: 2005 Chevy Malibu LS V6

Here's a question for any one who knows . I have aftermarket fog lights that I had installed on my old Corsica I had installed them with a friend of mine and it was easy to pass the 2 wires through . But on a 99 Malibu I can't find where the wires come into the car at all I do not want to remove or play around with the dash due to the air bags in the car . All I want to do is pass a red and a white wire through the car on the drivers side so that I can connect the fog lights they came with their own 20 amp fuse block and I want the switch on the drivers side in the car so that I can turn them on and off . But with the fuse block of the car so close to the cowl panel and tight it's hard to figure out how I thought about drilling a new hole under it all but would take any advice you people have so I don't screw up important stuff on the car

Hi All, My 3 year warranty will be up the end May 2012 and I'm debating if I should purchase the GM extended warranty, I only drive 11,000 miles per year so my car has a little over 23,000 miles on it. Everything seem fine with the car and the few problems I did have was mist in one of the headlights, last week I had a check engine light come on and they replaced the Evap Vent Solenoid (how its listed on the bill). I can get the 5 year bumper to bumper, 50,000, 0 deductible for $1771. The $100 deductible is $1594 not worth it if I had to take the car in for three repairs.

My question is it possible I can have $1771 worth of problems? The drive train is covered for another 2 years I would think that would be the most expensive repair if needed. I'm leaning towards getting it but I wanted to read your opinions.

I did do a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks!

Can't say that I've posted all that much around here but this whole process has definitely made me a bit more cheerful on an otherwise rainy/dreary morning.

To start, a month or so ago I heard a noise which I thought was just tire thrum coming from the front right of my car and didn't think much of it. Then, as the noise slowly increased in volume and started changing pitch with vehicle speed I figured the bearing had called it a day. Took her into the dealership ~7PM yesterday and explained to them I thought my right front wheel bearing was letting go (described the noises and such) and they gave me a '12 1LT as a loaner and set me on my way. 8:30 this morning I get a call from them saying that indeed, the right front hub bearing needed to be replaced and that she was all set. Clean bill of health and less than a day total at the dealer, have to say I'm rather pleased with that!

The great thing is that because I have an '08 the repair was covered under the powertrain warranty :D
