Mrs. Znavor - It could be the A/C compressor, the water pump, the tensioner, the two idler pulleys, or the power steering pump. It will be almost impossible to troubleshoot without actually tracing the sound down at the car as it is running.

I would suggest some time with a mechanic's stethoscope - or some time with a competent mechanic - to find the source of the growling sound.

Disclaimer: If you DO go for a water pump, let me know - I bought one for mine about two months before the surge tank blew, and never put it on, so it's sitting at the house collecting dust.

I see you have HID for the high beams, do you just have the plug and play or retro projectors??

Wondered if anyone would know what MN12 was!! When I got the Malibu, I traded in my 96 TBird LX.Had over 200K miles. I sure do miss that 4.6 V8 & rear wheel drive. I wish I would have kept the old Bird & restored her. I still have a login on TCCOA but haven't been logged in for 2 years. One day soon hope to buy another Bird (my 96 was my 3rd Bird).
