2013 Chevy Malibu Estimated 22/34 MPG

Perhaps a little disappointing for those who had their eyes on the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, GM is estimating that its entry-level 2.5-liter model will get an EPA rated 22-mpg city, 34-mpg highway.

While not confirmed by the EPA, the numbers fall well short of the base Nissan Altima, which is rated at a class leading 27-mpg city and 38-mpg highway. The new ‘Bu is also behind the base Toyota Camry which is ranked at 25-mpg city and 35-mpg highway.

Importantly, however, the new Malibu should come out on top when paired up against the upcoming 2013 Ford Fusion, which in base trim is estimated to get 22/33 mpg. Ford will offer a 1.6-liter EcoBoost Fusion as well, which is expected to achieve 26/37 mpg, though at a price premium. And while that is right on par with the higher-mpg Malibu Eco model which is rated at 25/37 mpg, Ford will also offer a full hybrid capable of an estimated 44/47 mpg.

I have to be honest I'm a little upset with the engine options.... i mean i'm all for the eco engines and such and i really do like this car's style but wouldn't buy it because it's just too slow.....i want the 3.6L back. i know it's not the fastest in the world but it gets reasonable mileage and you can have a little bit of fun when you're driving it

I'm really pleased with the Eco's 2.4. Feels much better than the 2.2 in our 06 Malibu and has all the power we need.

2.0T comes in the fall or winter with 259 horsepower/260 ft-lbs of torque. If its like the previous gen Ecotec turbo, it'll respond well to mods if not offer a stage two kit from the dealer. The Cobalt SS and Solstice GXP could be boosted to 295 hp/320 ft-lbs and retain the factory warranty.

Really?? Now that's awesome! It's just the amount of spunk I like and everyone loves a turbo! Haha

most factory turbo'd cars are mildly tuned, bigger less restrictive exhaust, more colder intake air and an ecu tune = waaah!!!! your mpg drops little unless your foot is in it.

My Eco isn't the fastest car I own but through the wizardry of a six speed box it LEAPS to 30. I have to be careful as even with TC on it chirps the tires.

Sure it's not a sports car but my 2SA Eco, to me, is a luxury car that is shaping to get near or over 40MPG on the freeway as it breaks in.

It is a superb handling, quiet, comfy sedan. It's a very nice wheel to be behind.
