Anybody else have the engine block crack. My 2010 Maliblu with 46,000 miles on it has a cracked block and needs a new motor.

@Rickybobby, I haven’t read about others having this happen. Under normal circumstances this would be covered under the Malibu’s Powertrain warranty.
From my family to yours, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Blocks don't crack without a good reason. Any idea what caused it? I assume you have a 2.4l.

Greenman,
Is the 2.4l more prone for failures? I know freezing is a good way for things to break. Or over revving and tossing a rod out the side does it too

No. I was just trying to establish which engine the OP has.

I've never lived where it freezes much so I have no experience with frozen blocks. I know all engines have freeze plugs that are supposed to blow & relieve the pressure. Throwing a rod will certainly do it.

Yes,2.4 liter. I'm going to dealer today to pick up car. They have installed a new motor and I'm going to ask them what caused failure.

Dealer has no idea what went wrong with motor. But it didn't cost me a dime. Dealer was great. Hope this motor will stay with me for a while.

Good to hear it was replaced. Just curious, how long did it take them to do it?

I’m very happy for you, Rickybobby! I’m glad to read things are going well with the car and you’re still happy with the dealership.

I think my engine seized on me, haven't taken it out to see if it cracked or not....only 89k miles on mine.
