Default Factory Radio problems.

The radio in my 2011 Malibu LS has recently started switching from cd to aux input to radio on its own. If I hit a bump it switches, if I touch any button in the car it switches, but this only occurs when I am playing a cd. If I'm listening to the radio or have my mp3 plug in and in aux input mode it doesn't switch back and forward. What could be the problem that causes this to occur?

Probably a failure of the aux input jack. They are delicate. Requires replacing the head unit. If you're going to use that jack, I recommend permanently attaching an extension cable to it & let the extension take the wear & tear of plugging/unplugging.

If your mileage is still < 36k, have the dealer fix it under warranty.

Have you checked your CD's. Maybe they have scratches and the laser is skipping causing the radio to switch inputs.

@DLB, I can understand how annoying this must be for you.

I agree with michaelj3; if you’re under the 36,000 mile mark on your Malibu, under normal circumstances this would be covered under the Bumper To Bumper limited warranty.

Please, let me know how things are going with this.

It's probably the AUX jack. Apparently there is a plastic piece that is directly behind the face plate of the head unit. It apparently according to GM is not a widespread issue to issue a tech bulletin. The cord wears down the placement of the plastic piece and becomes loose causing it to do things on its own. I would do what greenman suggested and get the extension. I will have to get one for my USB and AUX inputs.

Would this also apply for the display screen on the radio?? the radio, cd, aux, and xm radio still work but the display does not work. No clock, no way to see what station its on, etc.
Our local Chevy dealer said that the radio wasn't covered under the Bumper-to-Bumper warranty. at 31,000 miles.

Bumper to bumper covers anything factory in the car that is not a wear item such as brakes.

The warranty covers everything in the car that is not wear and tear...radio should be covered.

Warranty period is 3 years from date of purchase OR 36000 Miles (Actually is to 36000 + Number of Miles on the odometer when the original purchaser purchased it..so if it had 225 miles on it, Warranty is to 36225), whichever occurs first. Assuming you are less than 3 yrs from purchase, your dealer is lying, and you need to call him on it (Or find one that is good).
