2.0 T engine=premium gas?

all,

i have a 2.0 turbo on it way in a few weeks. they are building it next week and expected in minnesota a couple more weeks after.

my question, does anyone know if the turbo requires premium gas or is it a preference thing?

Based on my research of this car it does require premium gas to take advantage of the 259hp and max mpg estimate of 22/30 but if you don't mind taking a hit in hp potential and slight drop in the mpg estimate then you can use regular gas. Peep the link as its where I got the info. from.

I have a new Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo and the manual recommends regular gas. But it may be different with the Malibu. If you can get access to an On-line owners manual and look in the gasoline recommendations, they will probably tell you.

There used to be a time where all Turbos and high output engines required Premium, but they've changed the timing of these engines and they run fine on Regular.

I'm running fine on Regular with 1.4 L Turbo. No pinging or lack of power.
And Chevy makes a nice Turbo. No Turbo Lag. Nice smooth, even amount of power.

That's a lot of HP for a 2.0 Liter Turbo, but given the size of the engine, I'm surprised the gas mileage isn't a little better, especially on the highway. My 2010 Malibu had the 2.4 liter engine and it got 33 MPG on the highway.

I have a new Cruze with the 1.4 Liter Turbo and the horsepower is disappointing. Only 138 hp. As a matter of fact, the standard engine is a 1.8 liter DOHC (no Turbo) and it gets the same HP as the Turbo. The only difference is the Turbo get 145 Ft lbs of torque and the standard engine gets125 ft lbs.

That is crazy there is so little difference between the 1.8 and 1.4? I would sacrafice the 20 ft/lbs for a more reliable engine (less parts to break). I don't even see the point of offering the 2 motors with such close numbers?

Enjoy your new ride when it arrives Clipster. I tried to get one as well but the numbers didn't work out so I have to be patient abit longer until I pay the current Bu down a little more. The trade in value for these cars suck by the way! Just thought I'd throw that in there...........lol At the pace the 7th gen is dropping it may not even be worth trading in to be honest........:-(

Cool and clever, we have a great dealer. The 2010 silver bu only has 17,700 miles. We were offered a decent trade.

The 1.4T in the Cruze is a vastly superior engine to the dated 1.8L. It might require slightly more maintenance, but the 1.8L is junk. It's inefficient and not strong enough for the Cruze's 3200 lb curb weight. The 1.4T has much more usable torque for driving around town and allows the Cruze Eco to be the most efficient non-hybrid vehicle on the American market.

As for the 2.0T in the Malibu, the car weighs just shy of 3700 lbs, so the 22/30 rating is pretty damn good. It was only a few years ago that a rating that high was respectable for any low powered base model engine with 150-160 horsepower. This one pumps out waayyy more power.

That's the problem, cars are getting way too heavy. The Malibu only weighs 500 lbs more than a Cruze? The 1.4 is tiny for that heavy of a car. And I thought the 2.4L was under powered in the gen 7 Malibu.
