It looks like I will be changing the oil much more often

I currently own a car with my first turbocharged engine (2013 Cruze 1.4 Liter). I went a little over 200 miles and I'm down to 97% already on the oil life monitor. With my 2010 Malibu, I could go 10 months between oil changes. It looks like I will be changing the oil in half that time now. Does that have to do with the Turbo engine? I know a Turbo runs much hotter than a standard engine. I've been babying the car, so that should have a positive effect on the oil index.

I wasn't thrilled that I was getting a Turbo Charged Engine, but there's really no choice with the Cruze. Only the base model comes with a standard aspiration engine. All other models come with the Turbo. I will say that it seems like a very good Turbo. Very smooth and no Turbo Lag. But I would have preferred a standard aspiration engine.

It seems like GM has gone Turbo with a lot of their cars. The Cruze, Malibu, Regal. I would have preferred the same sized engine with direct injection.

At that rate, you would be due for another oil change in about 6,667 miles. That seems to be about average oil life IMO.

I think several factors are taken into consideration when computing engine oil life percentage.

turbo cars need high quality oil, not sure what grade is recommended but after a break in period, 5-10 thousand a group IV REAL synthetic oil as amsoil signature series is is highly recommended. most "synthetics" are group III a highly refined dino oil. run my 2001 vw jetta turbo 1.8L to 199xxx miles no issues and it was upgraded to nearly 300HP. i changed every 10,000 and an xtra filter change in between at 5,000

Turbo charged engines are harder on engine oil and the OLM is adjusted to compensate for this. Often the result is a shorter OCI.
If it were my car, I would do the first oil change at around 1,000 miles and maybe then go by the OLM. I still believe that new engines contaminate the oil rapidly as they break in.
