Recently took a trip from Indiana to Biloxi, MS. in our new 2013 Malibu ECO.
We averaged 33.3 mpg (880 Miles & 70-77 mph) on the way down, mostly all on interstates. 30.9 mpg (530 Miles) driving around the Biloxi/Gulfport area in nothing but stop and go traffic and never getting above 55 mph. And then, 34.4 on the return trip home. These figures we're from my calculations and not from the DIC. My figures and the DIC we're off sometimes by between 1/2 and 1 mpg, never more than that, but mine we're always the lower figures. Our Enclave has always been like this also, not really enough to get upset about. Plus we only spent about half as much on gas as we did last fall in the Enclave for the same trip. Overall we are very happy and look forward to many more trips south.
Sounds about like what our Eco did on our 3,000 mile trip earlier in the Summer. averaged about 34 mpg. This was also from my calculations. The DIC was off on ours also sometimes up to 2mpg off.
We seem to get about 23 mpg in town usually and the last long highway ride we did I got 37mpg.
The DIC seems to have got better at calculating over time it seems to me. Last fill up it was .1 gallon off of what I calculated.
The owners manual states that when breaking in the car not to drive steady speeds for the first 500 miles.
However with just under 500 miles on mine I am averaging about 28 mpg with 60% city and 40% highway driving.
Supposedly a new car doesn't get broken in until about 3,000 miles.
mzodarg - Is your car really tuned to 295 hp and 315 lb-ft? Fair warning for the sake of your warranty and future reliability, the 6T70 automatic transmission in the Malibu Turbo is only rated for up to 280 lb-ft of torque. That's quite a bit over the limit.
In fact, that's more power than the Regal GS (270 hp/295 tq) and that uses a different automatic transmission with a higher rating.

I'm averaging right at 28 mpg with about 75% highway driving. I average about 75 while on the freeway so I'm sure that's hurting me a bit. There's also the daily use of the remote starter that isn't helping.
I have the 2.5 and have been averaging 32 mpg. Im a very gentle driver and do a lot of coasting to lights, etc. Ie, I sacrifice speed and time for mpg. Around me its about 70/30 highway/city where I live.
