Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
@ Michelle & DrivenDaily I have a 2011 LTZ and my issue is the USB port will play a 4gb, 8gb USB drives but will not play (Device Load Fail) the Kingston mini 16gb drive I purchased to reduce the chance of it breaking the port or the USB.
Michelle, I did contact the dealer and replicated the problem and tried the "failing" USB stick in an LTZ on the showroom floor and it loaded & played just fine.
I have been dealing with Chevrolet under Service Request: 71-1049886353.
I have been told, according the to manual "Not all USB Sticks are supported".
That statement is lawyer talk and I have never been told which USB Sticks"are" supported.
That may have been acceptable if the same "failing" stick had not worked in another LTZ. As far as customer satisfaction goes, I was told twice that my Service Request was closed and that was it. I bought the car 11/21/2011 and that is not an acceptable answer and now I am bringing the situation to you.
Regards;
Paul

Well, not sure what to tell you. I have an '11 LTZ. I have a pen drive that didn't work because it had other files on it. I reformatted it (FAT32, not NTFS), reinstalled the music, and it worked just fine.
Since then I bought a SanDisk Cruzer Fit 4GB straight from China. Formatted it and it works just fine. When it's in the USB port it sticks out about 1/8" and looks more like a button on the radio than anything else.
If you're having issues and not getting satisfaction at one dealer, go to another. Be careful, though - when I did I ended up selling my '09 and buying my '11!

Thank you for the case number. Please, allow me through Tuesday, 5/1/12, to exhaust my resources about this. Also keep in mind, I can't guarantee anything, but I will thoroughly look into this for you.
Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
I am trying to be patient and have held off until this afternoon May 8th before posting this. I have not received any feedback on the above problem and would like at least a reply to this post as to a current status of the problem.

Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
Well, this is the "answer" I received. I didn't know enough to check my message folder where this was hidden. As you can see Customer Satisfaction continues to be very high on GM/Chevrolet list of priorities.
Dear Mr. Polanek,
Thank you for your patience as we researched your situation with your Malibu and the case.
Upon further research about your case, we will be standing behind the decision of the specialist who was working with you on this. They have followed the proper steps in this and we are not able to replace the USB since this device doesn't support all drives that are plugged into it. If you would like more information about this, you will want to contact the Service Department at the dealership.
If you have new developments in the future with this please, don't hesitate to contact us for updates.

How can this person have his "head"/radio replaced and my issue is denied?

Re: USB STICK Drive Size
I know the manual has info in it about the size/type of USB sticks but I have found from trying several sticks that it is not compatible with a lot of brands. There also seems to be a problem with the leads that read your stick. I had my head unit replaced because it was not reading any of the popular brand of USB sticks, and would only read a compatible USB stick if I put it slowly half way into the socket. The new head unit is no better in terms of compatibility but it reads my compatible USB sticks most of the time now. Not sure if this helps you but just be aware that it has very limited compatibility.

Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
My issue has been resolved, not, I may add with any assistance from GM personnel.
A Scandisk Cruz FIT 16gb thumb drive works fine in my USB port. I researched this and found another entry with the same problem I was having and the referenced thumb drive fixed their problem, so for the money I tried it.
I am really dissatisfied that GM could not issue some guidance on which drives work. I guess it must be cheaper to let the customer find out how to make a feature that we paid for work in our vehicle. This process also makes work for GM support personnel who then can't/won't tell the customer which USB drives have worked for customers in a similar situation. Word of mouth advertising.
Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
I just bought a used 2012 1LT. I am having the same issue with the USB not working/recognizing my iPhone. It is definitely intermittent and only after I start my car. I bought the car on the end of the world (12-21-12) so its been cold ever since I bought it. I'm trying to narrow it down but I noticed if I turn the car off and back on it will work. I have started to notice it doesn't work when I use RS (I use it everyday in the morning). It happened in the evening also after the car was sitting for a few hours and it was 30 degrees out. We used RS that time and it didn't work. So the common theme for me, that I've noticed, is the RS. I'm going to launch an investigation and see if simply using the key to start the car will help any.

We apologize for your frustrations with the issue of syncing your iPhone. We have a special department that can contact you in regards to any concerns with the infotainment system. You can also contact your dealership to see why you are having a difficult time doing this. Please let us know any outcomes.

Re: USB Port will not work right away in Cold Weather
@dogbone1, try this work around that was posted by EnvoyBu at the start of the thread:
"I've learned to plug the iPod in, keep the door open, and keep pressing unlock until you get the green battery charging thing on the iPod itself. Then start the car immediately, and it should work. It's frustrating. I know."
Believe it or not this does work but it does make me believe that the issue is software/computer based and that cold temperatures just seem to trigger the problem and cycling the door locks must send some sort signal / code that some how changes the conditions or the amount of power going to the head unit. It is truly an annoying bug but not something GM is unaware of given the number of people having the issue.
