My moms car is a 2001 malibu. Lately shes been having problems if you hit a bump the car will stall. I have driven it and it stalled once on me. I have hit bumps on the highway doing about 60 and the car was fine but i hit a pot hole doing baout 5mph going through a toll booth and the car stalled. Does anyone have an idea why this might happen?
Sounds like maybe you have a loose electrical connection. You might check the MAF to see if it's bad. Start the engine and let it idle. Tap the MAF sensor with your hand and see if the idle changes or if it dies. The MAF sensor is in the air tube going to your throttle body. If it's ok then check connections. Maybe someone knows more about what to check.
Funny, I drive a 2001 Chevy Van at work and it does the same thing. Add some tranny fluid and you should be alright. The trans on the van at work is shot, and needs a quart every day.
Try to add the fluid and if that doesn't help, get it looked at.
Ask this guy on this site, www.mpracing.org/forum , Mark is his name and he goes by Captain on the site, he can help you out with directing you to a solution. I'd bet on a loose connection with something electrical and being that there are several sensors and connections it will be a little bit of a task checking them all.
