So after over a year off looking for answers on how to install the home link on my 2011 bu I finally found the overhead part on Ebay and decided to give it a shot. So what I thought was going to be a big pain in the but was really easy. Here are a few pics of my new Home link install.
Pic 1 my old overhead on the left and my new one on the right
Pic 2 where i tapped on for power the Black wire for ground and the orange wire for my constant hot found at the plug for the map lights.
Just wanted to bump this thread with a few comments.
1) Thank you OP for showing us how to do this. Just finished the install on my car and your photos & instructions made this a quick and easy job for me.
2) Those who mentioned the reverse colors in the pigtail are correct. I hooked up orange (plug) to black (car) and vice versa. Looks "wrong" but it works perfectly.
3) If you're having trouble finding the S-715 pigtail or don't want to pay for shipping; your local GM Dealer can get it no problem (I work in parts for a Chev dealer).
Pigtail part # - 88860545 - I paid $9 which is cost; expect your dealer to charge you between $14-$18...depending on your relationship.
Titanium colour overhead console with homelink - 25871867. Can't recall the price; under $75 I call (cost). I bought mine on eBay though for $35 brand new sealed.
If any of you guys need help with parts / parts numbers; I'm happy to help. Just shoot me a PM.
Ok all, I hate to bring up an old thread, but I'm looking to perform this upgrade/mod. I have all the GM part numbers and went to pull the trigger, but now I'm worried about the colors. I noticed there is a cashmere and the titanium and I'm not sure what my color my car is... It is what I call a tan color now, is there a good VIN decoder or just call the dealer?
Titanium is about as silver as it comes. I can post a photo of mine a bit later.
Cashmere - 25871868
Titanium - 25871867
Both numbers assuming you don't have a sunroof. Or if you wanted to send me the last 8 of the vin I can confirm your interior colour.
Thank you very much, I finally found a pic of the cashmere and it is way lighter/more camel than I thought... I think mine is the titanium, it is more of a grey than tan after looking at it in good light. I really appreciate the help.
Cool; best of luck on your install! If you need any help / insight or even parts (anybody) feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm not a vendor but work at a GM dealer in parts and am willing to help my fellow 'Bu owners out whenever I can.
Thank you, I appreciate it, seems like a pretty straight forward install from what Ive read. I will definitely keep you in mind and appreciate the offer!
I placed the order for the titanium unit and the pigtail on Saturday. I was just driving into work and think I made a mistake, it sure seems like the headliner/map lamp is more of a tan color than grey/silver...
I guess Ill see what it looks like when it comes in and go from there...
My dash is black with the brushed silver trim (titanium Id guess?), my headliner is lighter in color (I'm assuming now its cashmere from looking at other models today)
You have the same interior I do. It is not a different color unless you have a smoker who drives the car. The headliner is a different color than the titanium, more of a light gray. The color scheme is ebony/titanium, so ordering the titanium trim is correct as mine is the same color.
No smokers here and I bought the car brand new. Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help, what a relief that is! Now I cant wait to receive and install it!
One last question though, should I also change the dome light out to titanium? Has anyone installed the light with the switch option in place of the non-switched version? Sorry if that is another thread, I haven't had a chance to search yet.
When it says ebony/titanium, its not talking about the silver trim on the dash. The titanium is the light gray color that is on the trim pieces, like the a-pillar, dome light, etc. I'm guessing the titanium piece you ordered will match perfectly and your dome is already titanium, it would just be a matter of whether you want the version with the extra lights on it.
I'm pretty sure the cashmere was only as part of the cocoa/cashmere interior, and it would be very obvious if you had that, All your seats and your dash would be half brown, half cashmere
I actually like my non-switched dome, since I converted mine to LED. The lens is much bigger on the basic version, meaning I fit alot more LEDs in there.
Thank you for the information, I appreciate that. I had noticed that when I googled cashmere I was only getting pics of the brown/light tan interior... so that makes sense now.
I was only going to change out the dome light if I needed to do so for matching purposes. If everything is going to match, then Im going to just install the LED bulb and be done with it.
Thank you to all on this thread (and this forum), I received my GDO module and the color match is perfect. I installed it the other day, works perfectly and was simple to program. I t-tapped the 3 wiring connections after verify the colors/polarity with my Power Probe and hooked everything. I also installed a pair of Canbus friendly 194 LED's and I couldnt be happier. Sorry, I havent taken any pics, but you all know what it looks by now anyway.
Glad it worked out. The 194s bright enough for you? I ended up going with 5 panels, each with 24 5050 SMDs on them. Going from 3 bulbs to 120 led is a bit intense, and may be overkill, but its fun, and they're cheap too.
Thanks, I am too, I love not having a separate garage door opener and battery to worry about.
The 194's are plenty bright (I even think they might be overkill, Ha Ha) I purchased some that are a flat, printed circuit board, they have 3 or 4 SMD LED's on each side. They are pretty bright and a good, even color. The two of them are brighter than the larger panel in my dome light.
I personally changed the bulbs out for the brightness and color, I like the true white light that LED's produce. The LED's also draw less power and generate almost no heat, so I like to use them for interior lighting whenever I can.
I just installed a new Chamberlain model LW5000EV. I cannot get this "Homelink" to work on it, I've tried every possible programming technique. My 2011 Camaro works perfect so I'm stumped. I guess this "remote" is incompatible with this opener
Live and learn! I guess I'll break down and get the smart phone app gear.
My factory Malibu buttons won't control my new set of Chamberlains either. It depends on what version of "Homelink" is in your car AND what color the learn button is on your garage door opener.
Call Chamberlain--The new door openers are going to a 3 freq transmission that the old Lear Car2U versions won't operate. I think for $50 they have a retransmitter that plugs into your wall in your garage that will fix you up. You need to be clear which system your car has though for it to work. See just below. Call them when you are sure and talk to a tech. This will likely be your cheapest route if the App doesn't work they way you like.
***Lear Car2U is identified with 1 LED in EACH of the 3 buttons.
***Homelink has 1 LED above the three buttons with a little house symbol wrapped around it.
Homelink 5 is the very latest version that should operate almost all new garage door openers.
I bet you a buck the one in your Camaro is the Homelink and the one that doesn't work is Lear. There is no rhyme or reason what version went into what vehicle of what year but I believe the Lear hasn't been used by OEMs in the last several years.
For ~$135 you may be able to retrofit your Malibu's non-working module with a new Homelink 5 module:
Google: "Brandmotion 2000-4103 HomeLink Wireless System" and you'll find the small kit on Ebay if you are interested in updating your non-working module. You can also go to the Brandmotion website and browse all the products. 2000-4103 is Gray. 4101 and 4102 are for different trim colors...black and tan. Not sure which is which.
I just found a reseller on Ebay and got the retrofit kit for $132. It looks very very easy to install and I will be putting it into my wife's Tahoe in the factory location. I may get another one to swap out the Lear module in my Malibu.
