Default Security lock

I have 2006 chevy malibu LS and it has locked up on me. when I put my key in the ignition and turn, it makes a clicking noise. Everything else comes on (battery, lights, etc) but a car with a lock on it keeps appearing on my dashboard. How can I fix this?

Does this happen with all the keys you have?

You have to be clear on this. The key does not work? Can you get into the car? The key fob is not necessary to start the car. Has anything else changed? Any work performed on the car recently? Is the battery good? Have you tried boosting it?

The key works, I can get into the car and the battery is works but, When I put the key in the ignition and turn, it makes clicking noise and a little car with a lock on it comes up on the dashboard. The radio and lights still come on.

Lo jack? Are they kidding?

Do some searching and you can find the instructions for relearning the anti-theft system. That is what it sounds like but it's easy to be wrong on a public forum.

I think Lo Jack is not so much of a anti start device but more of a way to locate the car after it has been stolen. I would guess if the "locked car" icon is illuminated, the factory anti theft system is not recognizing the chip in the key. It is simple to program a key if you have another good one but if a good key is not available I think it's a dealer or tech 2 scan tool job.
