Default Ambient Lighting Add-on

Has anyone seen or used these Ambient Lighting kits offered by GM. They seem a little pricey for me, but I am still interested in them. It is GM part number 22922239 for the footwell and cup holder kit ($400) and 22983212 for the front footwell kit ($365).

"These Ambient Lighting packages provide a soft glow in the front floor footwell area and/or console cup holder of your Malibu to provide a stylish accent."

I understand I can do it for cheaper, trust me I have worlds of wiring experience, especially in LED lighting, but I am looking for just a little more info on what this product is.
For example:
-Are they the same color as the ambient lighting in the car now
-Are there already spots to mount these to and plugs available, or must it be wired in from "scratch"
-The cup holder is removable, so does it limit that, or does it also then light that big chest-like storage compartment under the cup holders
-The price seems really high for what is pictured, is there more to it, or is it just significantly overpriced (I was able to find the footwell and cup holder kit on several others sites for $342, still not a bargain for a $3 LED)
-Any more info or pictures would be cool.

Thank you.

I'll bet you I can find lights to fill the car for less than $400. That's a freakin' rip off!

Yea, I have 42 aqua LEDs and resistors that I got for 6 cents each from Oznium. I also have a 5/32 drill bit which is the standard size for letting the LED through but not the small lip on the bottom, allowing them to sit flush where ever I want. I could do all that lighting for 18 cents, yes... I am just wondering more about this product.

I can see the footwells but why light up the cup holders? There is already a light on the roof shining down on them.

Also be careful with that storage under the cup holders. One night I got a drink from Sonic and set it in the cup holder then inserted the straw, I drove home and found the hole poked a hole in the bottom of the cup. The cup holders have a small drain hole in them and it drained into that storage area and filled it with coke. If I had any USB drives or whatever in there it would have ruined them.
