Just purchased a 2009 LTZ Malibu, wondering if anyone has upgraded the factory speakers? Crutchfield says I would have to put in a aftermarket radio if I upgrade the speakers?
Well, replaced the front speakers no problem, but the rears are a different story, they are wired seperately for the woofer and tweeter, anyone been successful in upgrading the rears in the premium radio LTZ?
I'll probably leave the factory ones in, I've got a annoying vibration in the rear deck, with even low bass tones, need to add some extra filler under the rear deck I suppose.
I used Infinity Reference 6032si 6.5" 2-way Speakers in the front, I've decided for now to leave the rears alone. I am going to test a few things to try to fix the vibration in the rear deck.

I took the rear panel off and placed B-Quiet Extreme (Dynamat type stuff) along the back deck lid and around the speakers along with the top of the trunk under the carpet and the back of the tag is coated with it as well.. Works decently enough

Great stuff expanding foam will fill cracks and crevaces and deaden a ton of sound. Just make sure to tape off or cover areas you'd need to remove or access in the future.
How do you get to the speakers in the door and rear deck? I presume for the door you should pry off the panel somehow but does anyone have a good procedure?
For the rear deck, you can't get to the speakers from the trunk, and I can't figure out how to remove the deck.

You have to be very careful when using the regualr great stuff, or the big gaps great stuff. It is strong enough to bow window and door frames, so just thing what it could do to sheet metal/plastic if done incorrectly.

Remove the 2 C Pillars first.. They snap off along with a teathered plastic cord you have to twist to pull out of the clip.. At the bottom they clip into the lower panels next to the seats,
Lay your seats down and remove the bolts along the back wall.. Then Behind the two outer most seat edges there are 2 large black plastic push in clips.. Get those out then just carefully lift and pull out the back panel.. Also dont forget to unhook the 3rd brake light before pulling it out
