Default Muffler leaking water?

I noticed drops on my driveway over the last few days. I checked it out tonight and it looks like there is water leaking from the muffler at a seam where a side is welded to the body of the muffler. It looks like it's rusting through from the inside. I have 2009 2LT so it's just over 1 yr old. Im not running the AC, so why would I have water in the muffler/exhaust, and so much that its been leaking out for days and rusting through? Does anyone know if this is covered under the 3/36 warranty?

I would have the dealer check it out but it sounds like just a weep hole. Those are put into the muffler to allow condensation from the exhaust gas to drain as the muffler cools down. The factory exhaust is more restricted so it's harder for that condensation to get out of the exhaust. A weep hole is perfectly normal but if you are seeing rust, have it checked.
I'm not sure of your engine size so I can't say you have one for sure but just have the dealer check it for you.
When you get a chance, fill out your Signature in the UserCP and give more info on your car.

I would take it to the dealer and have it checked out. I'm pretty sure yours would have a weep hole but better safe than sorry and if it is rusting you need to get that replaced ASAP.

All mufflers have weep holes. The water should be nothing to worry about. It is a by product of the combustion process.

Agree as well.

Also, think about the hot exhaust going through a cool metal pipe. Itll condensate on the inside of the pipes and then collect in the muffler.

Here are some pictures. It looked like it was coming from the bottom of the muffler. In one picture I see a weep hole on the bottom of the side. It could have leaked from there and blown back to where I saw it dripping from. The "rust" might just have been dirty water.

On a side note, what's that rusty piece I see behind the muffler more towards the center of the car. It's way rusty for a year old car, but I suppose it sees a lot of moisture, dirt and salt.

Thats the exhaust hanger. Its probably regular steel and it will rust as soon as it hits water off the factory floor.

Everything looks pretty standard under there.
