Default 2009 4 Cyl Oil Leak

Just turned 35000 miles on our 18 month old Malibu... Put it on ramps to change the oil and noted an oil leak coming down from the front of the engine (front of the engine, not the front of the car)... the oil had made a gummy mess down to the frame and was close to dripping off.
Question... is anyone aware of specific leak issue with these engines? IF so, what the correction is, etc.
Thanks,

There is a bulletin regarding a leak in that area, but I don't have a link. The bulletin number is #08-06-01-017C which is a leak at the rear A/C bolt hole mounting bracket because of porosity in that area. It is an easy fix for the dealer since you are under warranty, but they would have to put oil leak dye in the oil and clean up the leak area. Then you drive it for a while and bring it back so they can narrow it down and fix it. It is fixed by removing the bolt when it is cooled down, clean out the hole, and then apply teflon pipe thread sealant to the bolt and then reinstalling.

The only other leak I have seen on these engines is the o-ring on the filter cap wears out and starts leaking, but that leaks in a different area than you described.

Don’t know about the newer Malibu’s with the I4 but my son has developed some leaks including a Transmission Pan leak and now some more Leaks within the motor of his 2006 Malibu LT 2.2 . I guess there is/was a TSB for his issue. I have searched the internet and had found that many earlier generation Malibu’s have had many leak problems ranging from plugs to front seals and rear main seals leaking and so on””” Just to name a few! Hopefully some of the guys here can help.

Good Luck!

I see that you have got the help and answers to your problem. I find that these guys are awesome and are a big help when we need it. I know Starship has helped and gave me some input of possible problems and fixes in the past! I am very thankful for his help. Most of us really like the Malibu and at times have got a little frustrated and had to vent a bit but you guys have been great help in the process with any issues with our cars.

Just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work!
