Default Unlock button on Remote all of a sudden doesn't unlock Passenger door....?

Just after I'm reading all these posts from unhappy owners, and thinking of how well my work-horse Malibu has been treating me, I get this "classic GM" type of problem.

It seems that unlocking my car from my OEM Remote locks and unlocks everything BUT the passenger front door. This happened all of a sudden, out of nowhere.

I just need this baby to run good and reliably, so I'm probably not gonna look into taking it in to get fixed (thank goodness it's not the drivers door), but I found it to be odd, and annoying.

Yeah, for some reason the door lock actuators go out. I don't know why it has become a common problem though, since it was never really an issue in past GM vehicles. It isn't too bad of a job to do yourself, if that is the issue.

Ah, interesting. Yeah, kind of a little annoyance. How would one go about even DIY'ing something like that?

I have problems with my remote as well. Luckily I just bought mine so the dealer is fixing the problem. The remote I have only works for unlocking doors. Locking, trunk, and panic don't work. They're giving me a brand new remote and going to try and reprogram the one that came with the car tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

There are kits online that have aftermarket lock motors, some for 2 doors, some for 4. You can usually pick up a kit for around $40 depending. It includes a controller that lets you retrofit any non-electric lock so that you don't have to install a switch inside unless you want to. It works this way: Front doors get 5-wire motors that sense the lock moving and tell the controller, which sends the correct lock/unlock signal to the rest. Rears get 2-wire motors. All you have to do is lock or unlock the door in the usual way and the rest of the system follows suit.

You can use one of the front or rear motors to replace the defective unit and save the rest for later. And you don't have to wire in the controller - you can just use the 2 wires you need on the 5-wire motor.

The kit comes with special connectors that let it grab the lock rod and move it. Finding a method to install the actual motor is up to you, but a little ingenuity goes a long way!
