Default Replacing outer tie rod on 2000 Malibu

What is a ball park estimate of the cost to have the outer tie rods replaced ?

I can't seem to get our local repair shops to provide an estimate without taking the car to them, which is difficult right now ?

Rough guesstimate, 200 to 300 bucks. Figure an hour at least of labor, maybe 1.2 but no more than 1.5 hrs. Need to at least set toe but a full alignment wouldn't hurt either. Don't go OE tie rods. Moog, TRW, pretty much anything except OE rods.

Do you mean "OE brand" or "ACDelco" by "OE"?

IF the former, ayep.

If the latter - well, MINE lasted almost 300,000 miles factory ... silly me put two more back in with a track record like that!

On the rack bellows - on the Cougar, when I did the inners on it, I replaced the bellows with DuraLast brand bellows, which lasted about a year. Replaced those with Moogs when I did the outers on the Cougar - those lasted two months(!!!) Now have ACDelco on them, but the car's currently sitting (injectors for it just came in), so I only have about 10,000 miles on those.

I'll add that if you're doing the OUTERS, I'd look hard at doing the INNERS at the same time. Would have made my life easier on the Cougar.

Addendum: Rest in peace. Surge tank blew, motor overheated, I think she's lived a long and useful life.

Got it done for $301, from a local tire store here in Oklahoma City. Two outer tie rods at $60 each, $75 labor, and $70 for an alignment.

thanks for the replies

Now I need to figure out how to replace the PCV valve assembly myself.

I mean the OE, with the long GM number, which ACDelco does sometimes offer under a short ACD number. However, most ACD parts are repackaged non OE parts so they could be sourced any number of places. If you have good success with factory stuff, go for it. I can do as good or most times much better in my opinion going to Moog. Take the 45A0705 tie rod for your generation Malibu. That is not an OE part, it's supplied from the outside and repackaged in an ACD box. Your results are not typical but a few good ones slip through from time to time.

PCV valve is in the front valve cover, might have a bracket over it which you're supposed to replace the valve cover to replace the valve. Should be able to remove the bracket and the valve. CV892C should be the PCV valve you need.
