Default Where is the Crankshaft Position Sensor located for a 2005 Malibu?

car won't start checked fuses all ok
Had a neighbor check car functions with meter he plugged into the underisde of the dash, the neighbor told me that the meter showed change in timing reading (timing, I think was the word he used) and was told replace CPS
also 0455 diag code, check engine light. checked gas cap and it was not closed, closed cap cleared codes, prior to smogging. Passed smog

Is this a Malibu Classic ('97-'05) or the Gen 6 Malibu which was made '04 - '08?

Crank sensor on that engine is behind the starter, next to the oil pressure sensor. You probably have to remove the starter at least part way to get the sensor out. There is a relearn procedure that needs to be done if you replace the sensor. The car may develop other issues if you replace the sensor and don't do the relearn procedure. I can't vouch for the diagnosis. Is the check engine light on when you turn the key on? Those cars had more ignition switch issues than crank sensor issues. If someone checked it out for you, hopefully they know what to look for.

FYI
The key would not turn a few months back(october). I took DASH cover off and fixed issue by spraying WD in key hole. It has stuck a few times but not like initial issue.
So maybe the switch needs replaced. I think I can find the starter ??was wondering if the switch is an easy remove and replace

It could be an ignition switch, if you do put one in, I'd do the lock cylinder which has the passlock sensor in it, at the same time. They fail fairly commonly so you're only in the dash once that way. If you're just guessing your way through this, it can end up costing you more time and money than if you took it somewhere. Your call, if you aren't sure what you're looking at, snap a pic and post it. If you want to diagnose it, I'll try to help.
