Why Wonít My Car Start?
May 05, 2015 - 11:09 AM - by

Without a doubt, every owner dreads the moment when their car wonít start. What should you do? Who should you call? Can you fix it yourself? Hereís a list with ten common reasons why cars donít start up and what you can do about it.

'The first step is to define the no start' said Joe Spadafora, certified instructor at Universal Technical Instituteís Exton, Pennsylvania campus. Spadafora spent the majority of his career in working in the service department of several dealerships and receiving factory training from GM. Heís certified as a Master Technician and certified by Chrysler as a Dodge Viper technician . He also holds certifications from Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Lexus and Scion as well, so if thereís something wrong with your car, chances are heís seen it before.

To diagnose the reason your car isnít starting, you need to pay attention to happening when you turn the key. 'Does the engine crank but not actually start or, when you turn the key, does literally nothing happen?' he said. 'In a customerís eyes, the following two options are the same because both create a scenario that results in the vehicleís failure to run.'

While the two situations might seem similar, they have very different meanings that are important to a mechanic and can signal different problems calling for a variety of solutions.

'Itís important to note that a vehicle is an extremely complicated machine and can exhibit similar symptoms for a variety of reasons,' he said. 'That is why itís important to first look at the type of Ďno startí and then at the list of conditions that could be causing it in the first place.'

All-New Malibu is Larger, More Technological and Efficient
Mar 31, 2015 - 10:54 PM - by alfred1976
New hybrid sedan projected to offer segment unsurpassed 47 MPG combined.
April 1, 2015

DETROIT – Chevrolet today introduced the all-new 2016 Malibu – a completely restyled midsize sedan engineered to offer more efficiency, connectivity and advanced safety features than ever.

An all-new hybrid powertrain, which leverages technology from the Chevrolet Volt, will help offer a GM-estimated 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway – and 47 mpg combined, unsurpassed in the segment. The Malibu’s standard 1.5L turbo powertrain is projected to offer 37 mpg highway.

The 2016 Malibu is also longer and lighter, with more interior space and improved fuel efficiency. Its wheelbase has been stretched close to four inches (101 mm), and it is nearly 300 pounds (136 kg) lighter than the current model.

“Midsize customers tell us they want great fuel economy, connected technologies, wrapped in a gorgeous exterior. This is exactly what the 2016 Malibu was engineered to do,” said Jesse Ortega, Malibu chief engineer.

The 2016 Malibu goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015. Additional vehicle highlights:
  • Available segment-exclusive OnStar 4G LTE in-vehicle connectivity as well as available wireless phone charging
  • Agile, sophisticated and sleek exterior design incorporates sophisticated details that advance Chevrolet’s signature cues
  • Standard preventive safety technologies include 10 standard air bags, with available features such as Forward Collision Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
  • Automatic Parking Assist is also available
  • All-new Teen Driver feature, which allows parents to view their kids’ driving statistics, such as maximum speed, warning alerts and more
  • All-new, power-dense Ecotec 1.5L turbo engine with fuel-saving stop/start technology is standard, offering a GM-estimated 160 hp (119 kW)
  • High-output 2.0L turbo with GM-estimated 250 hp (186 kW) is available and is mated with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

2015 Chevrolet Cruze, Malibu to Live On as Fleet Models
Mar 18, 2015 - 8:03 AM - by

Despite updated models heading to the market, the current Chevrolet Cruze and Malibu models will soldier on.

The American automaker will introduce the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and Spark in early April at the 2015 New York Auto Show and it is expected that the 2016 Cruze will make an appearance before yearís end. But donít expect the 2015 Cruze and Malibu to disappear entirely as a report from Cheers and Gears show that Chevrolet will continue to offer the current models as fleet vehicles. It appears that on General Motorsí VIN decoder website, the current Cruze and Malibu will be available for at least another model year but will gain the Limited nameplate to differentiate from the new models. If this sounds familiar, the American automaker did the same with the Impala.

Although the assumption is that the models will live on to appeal to fleet buyers, changes to the Cruze hint that the Limited model may also be available at dealerships. Considering the Cruze got a mild facelift for the 2015 model year and itíll make its debut later than the Malibu, itís not surprising that the 2016 Cruze Limited model is remaining mostly unchanged. The automatic and manual transmissions will both be offered and the Eco trim will live on, though it appears the Cruze diesel will get the axe for the time being.
