Re: GM Chapter 11 & Warranties ?

If you are that worried then don't buy a car! Christ can't you get it when it's been brought up that the warranty will be honored. Oh and to let you in on how the government will honor those warranties, it will be with TAXPAYER MONEY!

GM is still the one honoring the warranty of cars bought before the restruturing procedure, even with Chapter 11 GM will be operating as it should. This will give GM a chance to reorganize and eliminate debts so it can come out leaner and become profitable. It doesn't mean the company is going under or out of business!

Chevrolet will always be around. It is by miles and miles GMs best and most profitable brand. Your warranty will be valid with or without the government involvement.

A lot of times when these big companies go into Chapter 11 bankruptcy, they continue to operate normally. US Airways filed for Ch. 11 bankruptcy twice, and still ran flights during those periods.

I don't think there's anything to worry about. GM and the government want the company in and out of bankruptcy court as quickly as possible. That's why the "good" parts of GM will probably exit in (hopefully) 30 days while the "bad parts" (Pontiac, other balance sheet items) will probably be split off and sit in bankruptcy court to be either re-organized or sold off.

Well Pontiac will still be around till the end of the 2010 model year. As far as other parts of GM, Hummer and Saturn besides Opel and Saab will be gone. Supposedly Saturn, Saab and Opel have buyers in talks but nothing concrete yet. This will hurt GM with the government now pushing towards bankruptcy, GM's suppliers are the ones that are bitching with all the money owed to them. It's the suppliers that GM is deeply in debt to that has put them in a precarious situation and the borrowing of all these millions hasn't made a dent?

Expect the Union to take a great hit with this bankruptcy, if they are not broken completely, but if the CEO's don't change their position on their own pay and benefits it will be lopsided in who benefits the most out of this.

The whole point of a bankruptcy is to clear all delinquent debts owed by GM, some of these debtors are not happy about it and could make doing business with GM harder after all is said and done, but time will tell.
