Anyone bought their Bu as a former rental unit?

I've seen Malibus with as little as 10k miles for sale. Even though they may have been occasionally abused a lot of the depreciation was avoided and the remaining of the bumper-to-bumper warranty applies.

Re: Anyone bought their Bu as a former rental unit?

I purchased my '06 Malibu Maxx in October of '06. It was a former Alamo rental car even though Carfax said it was clean with no rental service...LOL It has been a good car and the price was $2500 less than other cars in the local similarly equipped with 20-24 thousnad less miles.

My 09 LS was a prior rental. Bought it with 30k on the clock about a year ago for $11k even here in SoCal. Car is pristene condition, better than any of the other malibu's out there, not one scratch/dent...and $2k cheaper than the rest.

20k miles later and still not a problem, I love it. I would highly recommend buying used rentals as long as you check everything out before hand. I'm sure they're maintained better than most other malibu's for sale out there.

Re: Anyone bought their Bu as a former rental unit?

I looked at a few at auctions. My uncle has a car lot and could get me info on alot of cars at auctions. They were going for 2-3k under other cars, but they had about 30-35k miles on them for a 2009. I decided to go with one at a dealer just because it only had 12k miles. Also when we had a rental malibu, they made sure that there were no dents/scratches before pickup and after dropoff. My uncle said rental companies dont keep cars very long anyways. Truthfully, i wouldnt be afraid of buying a rental anymore, they seem to be just as good as new.

Surprised they bought a LTZ as a fleet car. 99% of them are LS or maybe 1LT.

Yeah, it surprised me too. Both the RPO codes and carfax said the same thing of it being built as a rental. I was thinking though with the kind of miles it has and the condition it is in, that only a few people drove it during the rental period. At the enterprise rental behind my work has a LTZ suburban fully loaded as a rental which confused me.

I bought an 08 LS in Nov 09. It was an auction car and I was a bit nervous. But, it was about 3K under book. It only had 28K on it. So far so good. Runs and looks great.

When I helped move my sister from Kentucky to Washington in August this year, we took a scenic drive around Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho. I saw an LTZ pull up to the store and asked the guy how he liked it. He said it was a rental and liked it just fine. Curious!
