Thanks for the reply! I take it the chain failure had something to do with metal shavings? Did they come from the chain?

I have a few specs, see pics. Any idea what might cause the stalling if it's not shavings? No shavings is certainly a good thing, but I'm very worried about my daughter stalling while driving, of course. Could low oil cause the stalling some how? (seems unlikely to me). The oil also seems dark for 70% oil life left.

    Thanks again for the input!

    Hi,

I just read this post by you: http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/6-problems-service-issues-troubleshooting-generation-7/92802-ok-internet-mechanics-get-your-thinking-cap-3.html#post804793

Pretty scary for me because my daughter's car (2007 malibu about 170k miles) is doing the same type thing! Start/stall/start/stall/start/stall. I just tried disconnecting the battery for a minute, and it fired right up and ran great. Did you find that the stall was a indication that the chain was about to snap? Thanks for any insights you can provide!
