  1. 2013 used car purchasing advice

    Gen 8 Problems/Service Issues/Troubleshooting
My Father in Law has a 2013 LT with the 2.5 with close to 100k miles on it. Maintenance included battery replacement, oil changes every 7,500-10,000 miles, and one transmissionn ATF drain/fill at 65k miles. The only issue he's had is a leaking o-ring in the coolant system and a leak/blockage...
  2. 2016 Malibu Limited Lt p305F

    Gen 8 Problems/Service Issues/Troubleshooting
Our 2015 LS had this problem after 4.5 years of perfect operation. We replaced the main battery and all has been well for 6 months.
  3. Malibu worth keeping?

    Gen 8 General Discussion
Get an alignment with -1 to -2 degree front camber, 0 to -1 rear camber, and 0 toe. Lift off oversteer in the corners makes for a fun ride.
  4. '15 spare tire

    Gen 8 General Discussion
The 16" spare wheel of of a late 90s camaro fits
  5. Auxiliary battery replacement - Dealership or DIY?

    Gen 8 General Discussion
Both of my batteries failed this year. The parts guy at Autozone put a powersport battery in the trunk because it was $20 cheaper, I asked why the new battery didn't have a vent tube and he said that the battery is "sealed". It only came with a 3 month warranty, so I might exchange it for the...
  6. How-To: Install Paddle Shifters

    How-To (Generation 8)
Great write up! Does the Camaro steering wheel have to be from an SS model, or can we use a steering wheel from any Camaro with paddles?
  7. New tires - Barum Bravuris 3

    Gen 5 & 6 Wheels, Tires & Suspension
20,000 mile update, The tires are still fine. They've taken me back to Louisiana with 2 Kayaks on the roof and 2 bicycles hanging off the trunk during a torrential downpour. I've rotated them once, and plan to rotate at next oil change. Looks like they'll last another 15-20k.
  8. Continental True Contact

Gen 8 Wheels, Tires, & Suspension
We replaced the stock Goodyears with Conti True Contacts at 57,000 miles. Got all 4 tires for $216 after rebates from Discount Tire Direct, ended up being $400 after installation and a 4 wheel alignment at a local shop. My wife drives the car and she is now at 74,500 miles with no complaints, I...
  9. New tires - Barum Bravuris 3

    Gen 5 & 6 Wheels, Tires & Suspension
Quick Update, We haven't been driving the 2007 Malibu recently, so we only have 5k miles on the Barum tires, but I drove it today in the icy weather. People warned me that summer tires would cause me to catastrophically crash into a guard rail if they encountered ice. I've driven them on the...
  10. Cross bars on 2007 Malibu

    Gen 5 & 6 Modifications
Hey everyone, I haven't seen much info related to cross bars on a gen 6 Malibu, so I'll share my experience. I purchased Rage Powersports RCB-3745-U cross bars for $52 along with 2 pairs of J-hooks for $37. The roof rack is secured with straps that go through the car, which in my opinion, is a...
  11. Buying Chevy Malibu 2015 family car and fun?

    Gen 8 General Discussion
We've put about 40,000 miles on our 2015 Malibu LS. I love the simplicity of the radio in the LS, mechanical buttons and an aux port in the center console is all I need. We've had zero issues aside from broken rear glass, just regular oil changes and new wipers once a year. It's not as fun to...
  12. Transmission Fluid Change

Gen 8 Do It Yourself Maintenance
I changed the trans fluid on two 2.5L Malibus this weekend, my 2015 and my inlaw's 2014. Mine has 34.5k miles and the in-law's has just over 70k. I only did drain and fill so both took just over 4.5 qt. It's a very easy process and I plan on going every 20k miles based on the color of the fluid...
  13. Fumoto oil drain valve

Gen 8 Do It Yourself Maintenance
I tried installing the valve, but it looks like I'll need an extension from Fumoto to clear the flange of the oil pan. I don't see an issue with it getting sheared off, the oil pan is lower than where the valve would be. If something is in a position to shear the valve off, we have bigger problems.
  14. Rear windshield shattered

Gen 9 General Discussion (Generation 9)
I got home Friday to find the back windshield on our 2015 Malibu shattered. My wife drives the car every day and had only been home for an hour. Our dogs had started barking a few minutes before I got home so something obviously spooked them. I assume that was when the glass shattered, but I've...
  15. Fumoto oil drain valve

Gen 8 Do It Yourself Maintenance
Thanks for the input. I have the LS trim with the 2.5L NA engine, so it may not have the same oil pan (I can't remember from my last oil change). I'll test fit it when it gets here and post photos. As far as the mess goes, it isn't dropping the oil that makes a mess. It's transferring oil from...
  16. Fumoto oil drain valve

Gen 8 Do It Yourself Maintenance
I ordered a Fumoto valve for my 2015 Malibu LS this week and was wondering if anyone else has used one of these. I got the one with the nipple so I can connect a hose to it and drain the oil straight into my used oil bottle. Let's hope it doesn't hang too low under the car...
  17. what type of oil do you use for your malibu?

Gen 8 Do It Yourself Maintenance
I go with whatever is the cheapest Dexos approved 0w20 full synthetic. For filters I go with whatever reputable brand is on sale at rockauto, usually order 5 at a time. I change the oil every 5k or 6 months, I started with 5w20 oil, then switched to 0w20, I think the car likes the 0w20 better.
  18. Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

Gen 8 Wheels, Tires, & Suspension
My 16" compact fit in the trunk just fine, plenty of room for a larger tire.
  19. New tires - Barum Bravuris 3

    Gen 5 & 6 Wheels, Tires & Suspension
I haven't run through a full tank yet, but I assume I'll lose a bit of mileage when I factor in the reduced circumference of the tires. My dash has been showing 30-31 MPG, but when I fill up it's normally 27-29 MPG. And the tires are rated at 97H, I see no problem with the load carrying...
  20. New tires - Barum Bravuris 3

    Gen 5 & 6 Wheels, Tires & Suspension
First impression update: Just to give you guys a background, my old tires were Firestone Precision Touring in 215/60R16 size. The tires on the rear were 4/32 in the center and bald on the inside and outside. The front tires were 6/32 in the center and below 2/32 on the inside and outside. So...
