03 Malibu (base) 3.1, 67K - Is this the correct coolant temperature? Heater output temp seems a little low, except under load, such as going across a mountain, etc.
OK, joking aside, modern gauges don't actually reflect a direct analog of the subject (fuel, temp, battery, etc.), but instead are told by the BCM where to display the needle. They're fairly close, but not dead on.
If you have (or can borrow) a wi-fi or bluetooth OBD dongle, you can download the free version of the Torque app. I use the Pro version, and it was only around $5. With it, you can monitor the actual sensor data and compare it to the gauge. THEN you'll know for sure what's going on under the hood.
