I've been alright so far in Chicago with ~4" of unplowed snow on the ground with the stock LS2's(which are terrible tires IMO). I'm definitely going to invest in some winters for next season if I don't trade it in for a Yukon.
I turn traction control off a lot in the snow and just use the paddle shifters for 3rd gear starts since the trans drops to 1st every time you roll to a stop. To much torque in the low rpm's in 1st-2nd, which causes the wheels to break loose even on dry pavement!
Recently though, I have been impressed by stabilitrack when I drove home from Wisconsin in a decent amount of snow, I had no problems going 50-60 on highways with 1-2 inches of snow accumulating. Stabilitrack did a great job of braking, adjusting the power to the front wheels and limiting my revs. Extremely impressed.
