hey does anyone know who manufacturers the universal garage door opener in the LTZ, and what garage door openers are compatible? I have an older Stanley unit that uses dip switches to control the garage and cannot get the thing to work at all...I'm wondering if it simply will not work.

The opener was put in this house probably 1993-1994 or so.

No clue who supplies the door controller.. but doesn't your owner's manual explain how to set it using the switches? My 2008 2LT does...

I'm sure yours does and you've probably looked at it so I'm not sure why I'm typing this LOL..

GOOD LUCK!

Seek out 'beach' and 'Yuri' on these forums.. they seem to know EVERYTHING about the cars! Obviously there are a ton others but those are the two that came to mind LOL good luck!

The one my car would't work either so I went on the internet and looked up my garage door motor and it said that I had to buy an adapter to fit on my motor for $25. I just velcroed one of my door openers to the inside of lip on my door panel where the drink holder and trash? area is. Works fine. Oh, my door motor is a digital motor.
[I think thats what it's called} The Website is [learcar2u.com] it's in your owners manual

Yeah there is something in the owners manual that tells you how to program if you have the switches. My mom's garage door opener has the switches and I got it programmed. Unfortunately you have ot be lined up just right in order to get it to open though.

It really is a digital motor, honest. The company is called Marantec out of IL.

OK so yes obviously I read the owners manual. It doesn't list the models that it works/doesn't work with. However I did find the manufacturer of this unit for GM, info can be found here: http://www.learcar2u.com/vehicles/ It is made by Lear.

Turns out the issue is that this unit sucks. Either it is installed improperly or not sure what the deal is, but the RANGE of this thing is terrible. I have to literally be IN the garage for it to work. It does not work anywhere outside of the garage.

I think it has more to do with the garage opener than with the unit in the car. I can hit the botton in mine as far as 50' with no problems.

hmm...both of our other garage door openers can work at least 50' away, but with this unit I have to be right under the opener.

It has to be the design of the old units. I have the same problem with my moms garage door. I have to be directly in front of the garage and hold the button for two seconds for it to work. On my garage I can be half way down the alley and hit it once. Just the RF Frequency or whatever it uses.

This appears to be a problem with the universal car2u and specific types/models of openers. I have emailed lear to see if they can assist, but I have a feeling the answer will be to get a new garage door opener or one of their conversion kits. Same issue discussed elsewhere:

I can't believe they would try to sell a "conversion kit" when we've purchased 3 other universal remotes over the past 10 years that have worked perfectly.

I emailed Lear asking for help - they sent a PDF, Alternative Programming Instructions for 300 and 310 MHZ Units. I followed the Alternative Stanley 310 MHZ Units instructions and EVERYTHING WORKS BEAUTIFULLY NOW. Range is 2-3 houses away!

1. Follow normal programming instructions, but
2. When holding desired button to program (last step) press and hold for 6 seconds and release - hold for at least 6 seconds and do not release even if the door moves b4 6 seconds are up.

I initially held for LONGER than 6 seconds (maybe 8?) and all 3 light started blinking, it did not work.. (all 3 lights rapidly blinking, maybe timed out), but on 2nd try held for just 6 seconds (garage door started moving in around 3), then let go.

The other alternative instructions (which I didn't try, since this one worked) was to:
1. Follow normal programming.
2. When holding desired button press and hold for just 1 second and release (< 3 seconds).
