I am getting ready to due my next oil change, and I was thinking of putting in 0W-30 Mobil 1 instead of the 5W-30 Mobil 1 I have been using since I got the car. I was wondering what everybody thought of this and if anybody has any experience with 0W-30. Mileage wise it is supposed to be worth about 2%, which is only like 1/2 a mpg, but I was wondering what ya all thought?

IMO it's a gimmick.

Companies will use the "better fuel economy" line to fool people into buying anything these days. 5W-30 is just fine... you aren't going to see any appreciable gains by switching to anything else.

Agreed on the fuel economy claim. OTOH, it couldn't hurt, given no price differential. I've read better UOAs compared to the 5W-30 Mobil 1 on the BITOG forum. It's actually not the 5W-30 base with more viscosity improvers but a significantly different formulation all together.

Unless you start your car in -20F degree weather you aren’t likely to see any benefit. But I dont see any disadvantage other than voiding your warranty by using the incorrect weight of oil.

If you looking for more MPG's keep an eye on your air filter, tire pressure and keep light on the go pedal.
