Been away a while. I finally got around to doing my 100,000 mile maintenance. I had the plugs changed, brakes check good, tires rotated and balanced, oil changed, cooling system flushed and refilled, transmission serviced, and went ahead and got the power flush on the fuel system (although I had removed cleaned the throttle body 20,000 miles ago)
and lastly a new air filter.

My wife says she didn't notice any difference, but I see it runs a little cooler and smoother. Mileage is still an unimpressive 23.8 according to the DIC. It has been higher, but it usually has a 300 mile trip every month or so that it hasn't been on in 6 months. I'll check it again when it has some highway time. Is is a 5 year old, 105,000 mile car. Like the last few, I usully get at least 8 to 10 years and at least 175,000 miles on a vehicle before I dispose of them, usually to the salvage yard.

I suppose everyone has a different opinion about maintenance. I probably do less than most people.

Plugs- only if I notice a problem
Trans fluid- change at 100,000 miles but no flush
Air filter- 3 years or 50,000 miles
Oil n filter- twice a year or 9,000 miles OCI
Throttle body clean- never unless I see a problem
Cooling system flush- never
Brakes check- quick visual check twice a year
Tire rotate- maybe once a year
Balance- 2 years
Fuel system clean- never

I always do oil between 3-5000
Filters when dirty or by the cars book

My impala had a plug go at 113000 so I did the tuneup then it had been recommended at 100000

My malibu says it needed plugs at 150k I believe or 100 I can't recall but I'm at 165k and other than a running a bit rough I have no engine codes thrown and still get good mpg

pay me now or pay MORE later!! those keeping a vehicle for a long time are ahead of the game doing upkeep when it costs less. in the end its your $$$$ + choice. tranny fluid is a biggie + conventional drains only get about a third, when done by machine ALL of the fluid can be replaced at once. anyone needing tranny replacement knows how $$$ this can be
