I have a 15" type R from my last car and want to put it in my 2010 Malibu. Anyone squeezed a 15" in their Malibu yet? Post Pictures
You might be able to physically make it fit but it would be a pain in the butt, because you may have to build the box in the trunk. And it would be custom made to allow access to the fuse panel in the trunk, and the volume requirements of a sub that size is large but you make be able to play with a little using polyfill, I'd think a smaller sub would be good thing to consider.

We are talking about a gen 7,
Not a gen 6 right? I'm not sure of the trunk space of a gen 6.

Moved to gen 7, please pay attention to the section.

It would be hard to fit a 15" sub in these trunks since the opening is so small and the box would be large. I can't even fit a cooler. Anyways, I would have to agree on using a small sub, it doesn't seem to take much to be overpowering in these cars.

I'd use a 10" or 12" anyway. 15's are sloppy and not tight if you ask me.
common misconception. 15s that sound sloppy aren't in the right box. A 15 can be just as punchy with the right install. I could get you to listen to some 21" Monsters and you wouldn't know what to think lol

OT-A 15 will fit easily. I went over and above but going the clean way a 15 sub up port back would sound really good. Let me know if you need a amazing box design for the low. The guy that did mine is a monster, one of the best fl builders there is.

Do you have pictures of that install? Was it firing up? I have a hard time getting the box for my 10 in and out.

You are correct. BUT for a 15 to sound clean it needs a huge box and lots of power. A 12, or even 10 doesn't need that. Also, a 15 will loosen over time due to mass and cone surface area in relation to the surround.

The thiele-small parameters of the speaker dictate what kind of enclosure you can use. Subs with a high Qts. can usually perform well in a smaller sealed box or single bandpass enclosure. You need to talk to a local stereo shop, or you can find box enclosure programs on some shareware sites or ebay. Just from a quick search it appears that some versions of the Type-R 15 will work in a 1.75 cu. ft. enclosure. That's relatively small!

Thanks for all the responses, I decided to wire up my 15 type R with a 500watt Alpine Mono. For the time being, I have it facing up in the corner of my trunk. that is the only way I could get it in there. This summer i will be making a custom box for the 15"

you can get a 15 to fit, just depends on how creative you are. it's already been said, but different speakers require different box sizes, and then you have to decide if it's gonna be sealed, ported or bandpass. get all the specs for your gear and the car and get help over at diyma.com. lot of geniuses over there!

We're talking generation 7 not 6, different cars. Your trunk opening appears to be bigger.

no matter the size of any trunk...if u spend the money on a decent pair of 15's your gonna want em to sound at their best..... right? so when u purchase the woofer or sub never go out the the cheap grey carpeted box have your trunk measured for air space height and all that good stuff!!!:D

sorry bout that the box is tuned with a computer program
it pretty much takes the measurements and gives u examples of what will sound best with that car i had 5 options i could have gone with but the fire up and vented out gives the best sound...the cone design and triangle fireing up desing was the next best design basicly the box wont miss any low note hearable to the human ear:eek: and to top it off i only have a 700 watt autotek amp and factory head unit and such....but it stil slappz really clear and very hard

I haven't heard of a program like your discribing, I not saying there isn't one. What is the name of it or where can I find more information on it? I'm very interested how it comes up with variations of sub placements a various configurations. I know of programs to help with calculations regarding output Vs freq.

Here is a link to what I'm talking about:

I personally have a 12"JL w3 and i cant stand how much my bu vibrates. good luck with the 15" i dont think its going to fit and if it does it will be a tight squeez. you might want to look into helping the car from rattling.
