Considering the Malibu is far from a performance car, I think the difference between 18's and 20's will be negligible in that aspect.

Looks wise, I don't think I've seen a 'Bu with 20's, and assume that it would look pretty gaudy, especially if going for the tacky "bling" style rims.

I'd say 18's or 19's would do the trick, kind of a medium ground between a nice "big enough" look, whilst remaining classy, and offering a good ride and lack of pot-hole damage, that 20's both hamper, and are prone to.

Having bigger rims won't make you go any faster. Actually, the additional mass of larger rims can slow your car down and have a negative effect on handling.

My car has 18s... I'm happy with them, but I wouldn't go any bigger. If I were to ever get a different set of rims I would probably go down to 17s and run a tire with a larger sidewall for a smoother ride.

I've got the 2LT 18s on mine and think they are even ground looks wise. Big enough to look good and the tires are thick enough to give it a good ride and handling. If I were ever to upgrade it would simply be an even wheel swap. Especially since the wife does most of the driving in it............

It is a bigger body car, so 20's would look good on it. The 18's fit it nice too. I prefer 18's around here because of bad roads. More sidewall makes me feel a little better. I wouldn't do two different sizes though, that fits for RWD cars but I don't think it would looks right for a FWD car. It all comes down to what you want and where you plan on going with your car, in an aftermarket sense.

I've seen some FWD cars with staggered rims... usually 18's on the front and 19's on the back. It actually looked decent for shows, but it has absolutely no function on the streets.
