Trying to decide on a pair of 15s or a single 15 in the trunk of my bu! 2 re 15s would take 4cubic ft a side, not sure if that'll fit? Or a single Orion 15 at 3.5 cu ft? I don't use my trunk so don't really care about space being used up.Question is can I get a 8cu ft box in the trunk of the malibu?

What will you be using to power? 15" subs are over-kill in my opinion. They do hit with low bass and hit well, but only in the lowest of freq's. I like 12"s. If the enclosure is done right they can hit extremely well. Also, 12" don't require the power that 15"s do to hit. Again, in my opinion.

But, if I had to go with 15"s, I would use just one and get the maximum power to it. The box for that 15, should take up 3/4's of your trunk, if done right.

I'm using 2 kicker Zx2500s to the 2 15s. But will only run one to the single 15 if I go that rought. Yes 12s can sound very good in the right encloser, but the 15s can hit a much lower tone and that's what I'm looking for.

That's a lot of power. Either way you go your going to have to completely button (dampen) the heck out of the car. Your going to have some amazing rattles!

Are you looking to compete? What kind of music do you listen to most? Will you be updating interior speaker too? With this setup you wont hear much of them! LoL

Either way you go, hope you share information and most of all PICTURES!

I had 15's in my other car that burned up (not because of the subs).... I honestly don't think that 15's will fit in the trunk of the Bu'.....It's a big trunk, but the opening is small. You might be able to fit it from the back seat if you put them down and wiggle the box in that way.

Thats all I can think of, and if you complete the job, please post pics!

Not planning on competing,Just always been a bass head! LOL..That is a lot of power but I'm backing it up with a Mechman 280amp alternator and a kinetic 1500 with 0 gauge wire through out. Also running a kicker zx850.4 to my kicker rs 6.5 components in the front and rear. As for damping in the trunk,Wasn't sure if I should try to line it with spray on bed liner or the dynamate.I've heard in some stereo forums that the bed liner works pretty good. I'll try to post pics of the box when I get to that point of the build.

I have 5k on my stock alternator and I don't dip below 13v full tilt. Granted I have 1 massive C&D tech batt under the hood and 2 135+ lb lifelines in the back. I would do 2-Sundown SA-15s. Sick budget sub and in the right box they can take some serious power.

If I were you I would build the box in the car in 2 pieces that way it fits :)

So do you think I could get by with my stock alternator and 2 kinetic 1500s in the trunk? I have everything but the alt, batteries and my head unit(can't decided wich one).I'd rather save $400 and just run my stock alt. I've thought about building the box in 2 pieces in the trunk,But what a pain!! UPS guy just dropped off all my wiring today,Trying to get this project underway this weekend. Thanks for all the input!!

40x35x13 is basically 8.6 cu ft before driver, bracing, and port displacement. I believe it would fit off of some rough measurements I took. Could fire subs up then the port into the cab via the rear seat opening just make sure you seal the opening around the box. Put the subs at the back of the box closest to the trunk opening where they have room to move. Also that flimsy carpet under the rear deck has quite a bit of play in it so I'm sure you could jam some 15's in there on end if you really wanted.

Not much progress on the install.Got my headunit, mids and highs installed along with the amp to run them.Custom mounted the amp to my trunk lid with a fiberglass amp rack...Turned out ok.The mids and highs are kicker RS 6 1/2 caponents and they sound pretty good with the ZX650.4 amp. Hopefully I can get to the sub install soon.Trying to upload pics!!
