I've been looking for a turbo for my 2008 2.4l bu, but i havent had any luck.

Will this kit (in the link below) work with my car even though it is made for the pontiac solstice? The solstice has the same 2.4l ecotec engine as the malibu, so i was hoping this kit could be used on mine.

If it dosent work with the malibu, do you know of any tubo kits made for it?

Thanks

No idea. But keep in mind that the Solstice is front engine, rear drive. I haven't even bothered to check, but I'd bet the engine is mounted front-to-rear, instead of across the bay. Again, no idea if that'll affect the installation of a turbo kit created for the other car, but possibly. And there are probably other differences between the 2.4l engines simply by virtue of the fact that GM was building the 2.4 in the Solstice with things like this in mind (not so much for our 'family' cars).

hahn kits are nice...but stupidly overpriced. you could probably build yourself a custom kit for around 1500-2000. (assuming you get a custom mani made) you could always use something like the Saab kit or balt ss kit. but custom would be your best bet IMO..

Remember you have to tune the car as well. keep that in your budget

You can purchase the exhaust manifold from the cobalt SS/NA turbo kit along with the turbo, and intercooler. I think you might be able to fit the SS/TC intercooler from Hahn racecraft. The piping will definitely be custom but you can use the 2.4 turbo cobalt as a guide. I believe you can safely run 5-6 psi without tune or bigger injectors. To make it all work properly though will require a tune, and I highly doubt that anyone has the capabilities for that. If you couple that with a 3 inch custom exhaust it will net you some good results, but you will be running pretty lean. Do you have the six speed or four speed auto? The reason I ask is because the turbo kit is designed for the 4 spead auto, and you might share the same ecu as the SS/NA cobalt.

Last I knew the 2.4 had a pretty high compression ratio, like 11.4:1. You likely won't be able to safely run more than 5psi without methanol injection. You also won't get more than that on stock sized injectors. Lastly, I really don't see the standard FWD transmission putting up with turbo power for long without some internal upgrades.

the internals are pretty stout from the factory, with proper tuning 10 psi shouldn't be out of the question with proper supporting mods

the SS model of the Cobalts came N/A... which was our engine 2.4L,
and they also came S/C in a 2.0L

that cobalt SS was a NA one which has the same internals as our 2.4L

now they come turbo from the factory in a 2.0?

that was a cobalt SS N/A that they started modding

Def had to agree. The 2.4 is the same engine than that of the malibu. The only differance the cars have motor wise is the intake manifold. The cobalt has a one piece intake mani, and the malibu has a less efficient stamp two piece. All malibu owners should contact crate engine depot and ask for it. I put one on my dads malibu, and it fits nicely. When I had my 2.2 cobalt I dyno at 134 whp. Before I put it on I had around 124whp.

hp tuners can get it tuned for you
i have hptuners, and i'm STILL waiting for it to work with the malibu 2.4. it currently only works with the cobalt 2.4 2005-2007. malibus aren't at the top of their list to mod.

the garrett gt28rs that hahn uses is a great turbo. almost a waste for 6 psi. the ss 2.0t borg warner turbo is twin scroll, and is also very nice if you can get it cheap. it'll spool just off idle with the 2.4. i would avoid ebay turbos and cheap chinese repos.

the compression ratio is 10.4:1 and is fine using 87 octane. using 91+ octane will support 6 psi no problem. the trick is making sure you have enough fuel (not going too lean).
