This a 2000 3.1 V6 sedan model Malibu with about 250k of well maintained engine kms.
Hello all potential problemsolvers! I will give the history in point form for ease of understanding, and the problems included therein..
1. Car began displaying anti-theft lock out syndrome about 6 years ago. Was intermittent and manageable until this past year (car was driven less) when lock cylinder became loose and then key became jammed and unable to return to OFF position. Also needed to push shifter aggressively into park to get key out or car started.
2. Replaced the lock cylinder only, car would not start after replacement. Tried relearn procedure - but this car did not keep light on for 10 Minutes anymore, light just disappeared after 10 Secs and stayed gone. No luck waiting to see if it relearned 3 times. Followed a guide to cut wires on antitheft and install a soldered resistor between wires - Success. I did have to move the internal piece of the ig switch into position with a screwdriver to get the lock cylinder in to let the key move properly and turn to Run, but I heard that's common. For 1 week no issues other than having to still push shifter hard occasionally, and oddly needed to keep the old anti theft fob on keys to get it to start. Went over a small bump, stopped to get gas - car never started again.
3. Replaced entire ignition switch, putting new lock cylinder in it, but kept the same anti theft passlock wires with the soldered in resistor so far. New Battery died while car sat waiting for the parts - no one is sure why yet, it didn't even have keys in it.
4. Car did not start. When turned to Run; bells chimed, no fuel pump sound, normal dinging, little anti theft blinker bulb (not on the dash) flashed every second as normal, no registry of gauges for 7 seconds and then parking brake lights and low fuel light engaged. Car has a half a tank at least in it. The level reads empty. When advanced to Start; No fluctuating gauges, clicking, or crank. Complete silence, and then 4 quick dings. That's it, that's all I can get.
I do not think it is related to the starter, as it never had any issues, and has been tested. I tried switching the ignition relay with the ac relay as they are the same (as suggested in another forum) - no go. I think that the fuel gauge delay and lack of theft blinker are somehow related to whatever this issue is, it seems to be less common than most posts I've read, and I've been reading a lot.
Can someone give me a clear path to start on? And also - thank you, I really need this car to work, like yesterday.

One quick question that I'm not clear on:

Was the switch part of the ignition replaced as well? Those older models have 2 distinct part numbers for the tumbler and the switch.

In my old '03 it was the sensor that was bad in the lock housing, not the lock cylinder. I reused old lock cylinder and had no issues. Did the same in my brothers Impala of the early '00's.

Yes I did replace the entire housing, pulling off the two wire sets and the shift cable at back. I reused the brand new lock cylinder from 1 month ago, but I left the 3 wire passlock the same and transferred it. I had put a resistor in that line yellow to black and it worked so i left it the same.
