My 02 malibu Ls stalls after and hr or more of continous driving on the highway. Its just happens suddenly where i have my foot on the gas and then all of a sudden it feels like there no gas going to the engine and i have to pull off to the side of the road. Sometimes the check engine light comes on but it goes away when i restart the engine. After that i sit for about 5-10min then the car works fine for another 10-20mins then the same problem happens again.

Not that this will resolve your problem, but this reminds me of a practical joke we played 20+ years ago on people we had "issue" with.

We would place a ping-pong ball in their gas tank or a small plastic floating ball that would fit. The car would drive fine then it would stall, driver would stop, restart the car and drive again..and then the car would stall. Garage could not figure it out till they physically removed the gas tank and found the "problem", which was days and $$$ later.

I was very very evil when I was a wee young lad.

I would suspect the fuel filter and/or pump.

My mother used to have a Dodge K car. During a perfectly fine 20-degree day in southern Oregon (Medford) it would run about 15-20 minutes and then die. She'd wait about that long, start it, and run that much further. Repeat.

I discovered that the electronic ignition was on its way out. Interestingly it was cooled by the air intake for the engine - its board was built into the section right behind the headlight. I accomplished getting the car going by getting a distributor from a VW engine at the junk yard and replacing hers, plus a little surgery on some vacuum lines. Ran like a top after that!

Yours could be as Erik describes - something mechanical - or it could be electronic.
