If you've got the traditional box-filter, when you take it out, see that hole in the bottom? Follow it around, and you'll find out the FACTORY setup is a cold air intake.
Before I ruined that by putting a cone in the engine bay (where it becomes a HAI), I'd consider swapping to the OEM fit K&N or some alternative to that.
Keeps the original cold air, reduces restriction, improves air flow ... what's not to like?
Also keeps the car closer to box-stock for those pesky "emissions tests" aka "Boy, you can't just do ANYTHING to this car! We're gonna impound it and take your license!" some areas have ...
