This has probably been answered numerous times, but I just bought my 2009 LTZ and am new to the model.

I am trying to figure out which sound system I have. I have been reading that the "premium" system is standard on the LTZ's in 2009, but i do not see any Bose or Monsoon badge anywhere. I am assuming that the 2009's did not use Bose and maybe they used Monsoon and didn't advertise with a logo or badge. I am wondering how the whole 8 vs 6 speaker thing works. I know I have 2 small tweeters by the front windshield, 2 speakers in the front doors and 2 speakers in the rear package tray. That is only 6 though. I noticed that the rear speakers have 4 wires going to each though, so I am wondering if that is how they count up 8?

The reason for my asking is of course the two rear low frequency woofers are completely blown and i need to replace them. I was going to swap them out with something at Crutchfield until i noticed the 4 wires and decided to investigate further. I have not taken out the back inside panels yet to look at the rear setup. Can anyone explain how its setup and what I should do. I found on GM car parts OEM rear speakers for $45, I am thinking that is my cheapest easiest solution right now.

Thanks,
Chris

The '09 LTZ came standard with a premium stereo. Some late '09s might have had the Bose, but 90% will be the Monsoon. It does not say Monsoon on it, but you know you have it if you have a 6-CD changer. The Bose has a single CD and says Bose on the front two speakers.

The 8 speakers are the two tweeters in the A-pillars, the two door speakers and the rears are dual voice coil speakers. Wanna-be subs, and high frequency drivers on top of them.

I added a powered subwoofer to help with the lack of low bass. If you swap out the rears with regular speakers you will lose some bass for sure. What is the mileage on your car, not under warranty?

The mileage is 40,000. I honestly don't even know what the warranty would be on that kind of part. I know the power train is 100,000, but outside of that I am not sure the warranty period or if it is still in warranty?

Your 3/36 would have covered it. Your on your own now.
Nice, I need to get the Bu back in to the shop for my rear speakers as well... They are sounding real bad...

I am really trying to stay possitive about a car with 31K miles and is nearly free and clear, but it is getting harder and harder...

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but this is similar to something I've been wondering. I am pretty sure I don't have a 6-CD changer - there's no "load" button on my unit. Yet, I can't find any mention of Bose anywhere on the front speakers. I actually went outside to check just now. I don't really care about a CD player at all, since the only thing I use is my iPhone. But having only had my car for three weeks, I'm still interested in finding out more about it. So what's my deal? Monsoon speakers, but with a single-CD player?

Does your window sticker say Bose? I think it was like a small $$$$ option. If not, and you have the "base" premium Monsoon you got screwed out of a 6-CD changer as far as I know. Odd....

Did you get the speakers done on rear deck
In the shop as we speak... Will follow-up with them tomorrow to see how they are coming with the vibrations, steering clunks and the speaker vibrations.

Finally went out again to check the vehicle. No sticker anywhere on the window that says Bose.

I wonder if I am a unique case? FWIW, my car does have the USB port (which was a huge selling point), and it was built in Fairfax. But it's definitely not a 6-CD changer. Oh well, like I said, I would probably never use CDs anyway, but I almost feel a little cheated since I was under the impression that the premium sound system included a CD changer.

Not unique, I definitely do not have a 6CD changer and...
"AM/FM Stereo CD Player w/USB Port, Premium audio system"
Never saw BOSE on anything but haven't looked too hard.

Got it back tonight... Good news is that the speakers are not blown. The bad news is that something is vibrating from the bass. The technician thinks he was able to insulate the noise but time will tell if that will work.

It is most likely the plastic "shelf" in the back. Why the heck they made that plastic is beyond me. But I bought some Dynamat and added that and it stopped it. Getting back there sucked though.

I have a feeling that is what I am going to have to do. After talking to the service adviser it sounds like the tech tried to fix the sound from in the trunk. I think it is coming from under the deck so I will have to figure out how to get is off and some insulation between the plastic and the metal structure. I bet that will truely suck!

I had also had heard some vibration/rattle sound from rear speaker area. I hear it with music that has a lot of deep base and I have had it make the sound playing around with the base function on the radio. I thought the same thing, had to be that sheet of plastic in the rear! I agree and don’t understand why they would put plastic in that area! The plastic makes it look kinda on the cheap-side for one!
