Clean oil is often difficult to see on the dipstick. When checking oil try to always do it while parked in the same level spot. Parking nose down will increase the oil level reading. Parking uphill willl decrease the oil level reading. If the oil is now greater than 1/2 inch above the full mark, I would suggest you drain or siphon some oil from the engine.

The valve cover removed photo.... Dark deposits on the driver's end of the head appears to show the PCV system is not working as well as it should be.

A guess....some versions of this engine are known to collect ice in the PCV hose and intake resonance chamber attached to the intake plenum.. This could obstruct air flow in the PCV system and cause a whistle? Even if you live in a warm climate, I would still examine these items.
