Just recently purchased a 2011 Malibu LT and it was running fine for a car that old and 185k miles. But last Saturday my wife left her office and drove less than a quarter of a mile and stopped at a traffic light, when the light turned green the car would not drive forward. The car will go in reverse thankfully so it got off the road to a parking lot. We had the car towed home and added transmission fluid but still no success.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? I have been researching and see that there is a transmission linkage bushing that might be the issue but where I saw that did not say if that was replaced because of this issue. Ran a diagnostic test and no transmission codes came up.

Which engine do you have? That determines which transmission you have, that will enable forum members to offer some guidance.

The car has a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine

Was the transmission fluid low?
What color was/is it? Red or Brown?
Could you put it in "Manual" mode and get it to go?

The Fluid is full. The color is red. And when put in Manual mode does not go forward. I can hear and feel the gears change from Park, to Reverse, and Neutral as well in Manual mode.
