So I recently bought some 20 inch Camaro rims for my Malibu. I know. Harsher ride, mpg may change, Speedo recalibration may have to happen, etc… I’ve seen people ride on these and I have a friend who has the same car with the same rims. And honestly aside from a few things, there is not many changes between their car and mine in terms of ride quality and handling and the bumps in the road was not a deal breaker for me. All of my rims are 20x9. I recently tried putting them on with 245/45/20s and my front two rims didn’t fit. So my question is will low profile tires do the trick, will wheel spacers work as well because I’ve come to terms with the effects of those, or is it both? Because the place told me that I would need 15mm spacers for those. And this custom rim shop looked at the rims and said that the tires are way to big and that I will have to get low profiles. And if I still need spacers, I wouldn’t have to get as big of a spacer. He also said while staggered may look nice, I would want to get the same size all around being that a FWD car does not need all of that. It isn’t a sports car which I completely understand. I don’t want Whitney, my car, riding weird. She’s been good to me thus far and has barely any issues.

Why not try the same tires as the friend?
It’s hard to come by for some reason and the place I went keep trying to sell me these big Falken tires that’s too big for my car. Also I think it’s because I have all of them at 40mm offset. I think I got the issue fixed today at discount tire. On Monday I’ll be seeing if the tires they offered work. I can’t remember which size this guy said but I do know the brand is Continental. They offered to replace them with no additional fees

So good news and Bad news. In January of 2022, I posted about my car, Whitney, and how I wanted to put 20-inch Camaro rims on her. Well, they went on perfectly. Well... with low profiles. But they look great on the car, and I've been rocking them for almost a year. Now the bad stuff. Someone sideswiped me not too long after I got my rims and installed them. And unfortunately, the damage also extended to the rims. And because State Farm decided to be lazy and not come out and survey the damage themselves, they couldn't figure out what was previous and crash-related damage (mainly because the damage caused by accident occurred where minor damage was. How they found out my car was damaged? This body shop, I call myself about to get my car fixed at, shared those previous estimates right BEFORE the accident. So I was railroaded, and I know not to make those same mistakes again. They at least filled imperfections in my rims so that it would be easier to fix them when I go to this shop to get them fixed. So that's good. I have a lot of work to do with my car, and I would love to share the journey with anyone who wants to follow along. Here are some pictures from when I first got the rims installed.

Keep in mind that insurance only covers factory installed rims not ones you install yourself unless you buy optional accessory coverage.
And your VIN lists what the car was built with.

Ok and I get that! They actually did fill the imperfections in so that it would be easier for the shop I’m about to take the rims to get fixed at can work a little faster because they knew it took too long. Which I’m excited about.
