*Please note the 2016 Malibu (gen9) is not the same as the 2016 Malibu Limited (gen8). The vehicles have entirely different electrical systems and engines. For information on a 2016 Malibu Limited please see the gen8 section.
**In 2016 the LT trim is split into 1LT (1.5T with 6-speed) and 2LT (2.0T with 8-speed). In all other model years the L/LS/RS/LT are equipped with a 1.5T. The 2017+ Premier models are equipped with a 2.0T with 9-speed. 2019 is the mid-cycle refresh year. The Hybrid model is discontinued after 2019. The RS model is introduced in 2019 which is positioned between the LS and LT. The 2019+ L/LS/RS/LT cars match the 1.5T to a CVT. In 2022 the L trim is discontinued. In 2023 the Premier trim and 2.0T engine are discontinued.
